myco Posted February 11, 2014 theres probly no way of telling what cubensis it actually is without proper microscopic identification i have never seen either of the strains you mentioned in person either so i wouldnt even make a guess to be honest definitely cubensis though bottom of the stem in the first pic looks a little odd but the second and third pic are a dead giveaway bruising is evident on the cap in the last pic to 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
enohpi-zeekim Posted February 12, 2014 Ok so here's the print, and looks like its the Golden Teacher, because I think Columbian Rust is a light tan or pinky white spore. Will re-check my memory is correct for colour but this one is definite pinky- purple to black. I'm curious as to why/how you think either of these particular ones got into your little plot? Wouldn't somebody have to grow the strain outdoors, then have spores escape, and you happen to collect that dung? enohpi-zeekim Posted February 12, 2014 Thanks for all the replies, yes the print confirms it isn't a CR, why I didn't think of doing that first? Sometimes being outdoors with the sun and changes in weather will make you have to look twice at your shroom to check the variety your looking at. Where I come from on the top of the southern island nz there are heaps of Subaeruginosa. I grew up watching them spring up all over the garden and nearly every bark garden the council laid around the community. So cubes are still new to me and a little expert help is sometimes much appreciated. I knew the soil had a couple varieties in it and also a truffle sample so there were only a couple chances of what it was going to be. Also not a very good idea to use soil layden with mycelium for plants they tend to get fungal infection, go figure! Peace 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Zen Peddler Posted February 13, 2014 Strains are all just stable phenotypes of one species for the most part so stable microscopic characteristics might be hard to identify between strains. outdoor cubes might in general throw up different phenotype characteristics making it confusing to identify.
