Trichocereus.net - Database & Gallery Website is finally online

Recommended Posts

Thank you very Much, coolname! Will update at least once or twice a week and would mass upload everything but the hosting i´m on is not unlimited. Am looking into alternatives on the long term. But i will definitely keep updating until we´re on Page 1 on google.

Alright Guys, site is about to go offline now. I am moving it to my second Hosting Package because i have more Webspace there. Wasn´t aware that i still have something like 45 Gigabyte Space on my german Hosting while the space on the US One is about to run out.

I am trying to simply move the Installation there but in case i run in Trouble with that, i might re-install everything like it as now manually. Might take a few days but site will DEFINITELY be back online in a few hours/days. If problems occur, i can simply switch on the old installation and have everything back in place.

FUCK YESSSSSSSSS!!!!! I did it! Successfully moved the Site to my other Hosting Package by rewriting the Database by Hand. EG the First, King of the Internet just earned his Database Crown.

Alright Guys, site is up and running! Will update the site regularly in the next weeks/days! There´s something like 5 Gigabyte Pics waiting in Line and i´m happy for everyone who want´s to share some of his Pics too!

Some major Updates today. Created some Pages for the Named Clones Database. They are empty because i still need Pics and Info´s about most of them. Will put the sites together as soon as i get something to put in.

EILEEN

Fields Pachanoi

Lumberjack

Psycho0

Rosei Type 1

Rosei Type 2

Also created some more Galleries. Created a Gallery to make the Karel Knize Mess a bit less confusing. A lot of great Pics from K.Trout! Thanks for sharing again! Some very interesting Galleries in there. For example, check out the KK242 Page to see how diverse the Plants labeled as KK242 can be. KK242 is more than the One widespread Cuzcoensis Type.

Knize Gallery

Also added some more Galleries and a Gallery List because some of the galleries were out of sight. Will complete the Gallery List during the next days and weeks.

If you have Suggestions, Ideas, Texts, Pics, please let me know.

SAB Database

Will also create an SAB Database containing Info about all the Clones and Hybrids too. I guess it´s best to create a new Subforum for it and create one Thread per Clone and link to them from the Index Page.

Looking good so far Evil Genius. I have a few suggestions/observations:

- In the Trichocereus cuzcoensis gallery you have two pictures (large mother plant and a cutting) that appear to be T.bridgesii. I'm also unsure about the fat one in the pot, but I've never really seen a plant like it.

- In the Trichocereus peruvianus gallery you have the Torres and Torres clone, but that - and correct me if I'm wrong - is considered to be a pachanoid. On a side note, that clone reminds me a lot of the mutts that come from Hamilton's nursery in NSW; not quite peruvianus, but not quite pachanoi either.

- I think some of the galleries would look cleaner with only one or two pictures of individual plants. For example, in the freaks section there are a couple of plants with lots of very similar pictures. You could possibly link to sub galleries for those specimens that deserve extra pictures.

These are just my opinions. The only reason I mention the IDs is because your site has the potential to become an authoritative source on all things Trichocereus, and incorrect information will just add to the existing confusion surrounding this genus.

Anyway, when do you plan on getting the named clone sub-forum going? I'm sure there are plenty of members willing and ready to contribute :).

Hi Explorer, thanks for your suggestions! Will definitely look into them as soon as i get to work on the site again. ATM I don't have enough time and when I do, I only uploadpics. So some Cacti aren´t in the right Categories yet. So don't take any of the Labels on them for granted. Most of them are in the right place but right now, i am at the point where i want to get everything online and sort it out later. There are so many others that need to be adapted to modern taxonomy and shit. I am not even thinking about that yet. Personally, i actually look at Pachanoi/Peruvianus as one group of Plants and both are so closely related that they actually should not be two species. That´s my personal opinion because i consider this one Group of Trichocereus; which is extremely variable. In my eyes, the lenght of the spines and some V-Notches don't really justify the differentiation for me. You know, I grow hybrids and I can change the complete look of a plant within only one generation just by crossing with something else. That doesn't make it a different species. It´s just one generation away. I guess you know what I mean.

I am not 100% happy with the layout as it does not allow me to organize all Galleries as i would like to. The problem is, not all Pages fit on the screen. Thats the reason i have many pics per page. Maybe I will change the layout again, but for now, it´s ok. Right now, all that matters for me is providing good content. And with that, I mean quality pictures. I have many great ones lined up for upload so thanks for everyone who donated pics!

These are just my opinions. The only reason I mention the IDs is because your site has the potential to become an authoritative source on all things Trichocereus, and incorrect information will just add to the existing confusion surrounding this genus.

Well, thank you very much. The site WILL BE the authority website in this field. Even if i place Trichocereus Peruvianus in Lophophora. Lol. SAB has always been on Top of google for Trichocereus and I will make sure we build a kick ass site. Right now, it´s far from being perfect, but that will change. The genus won´t break if we take a few months to get all the data sorted out that we have. In fact, i would like to invite everyone to help us sorting out the site like you just did. Like I said, ATM I am just uploading whenever I have the time. The site needs to be a bit more organized and everyone who is willing to help is extremely welcome. ATM, I am working like 16 Hours a day to build me a financial existence and the Trichocereus website comes on top of that, in regard of the workload. So people who want to help, you're very welcome. But no matter what, this Site will be the new Go-To website. And if it will be the last thing i will do. ;)

Anyway, when do you plan on getting the named clone sub-forum going? I'm sure there are plenty of members willing and ready to contribute :) .

Already addressed that, but want to do it again. Right now, i still need Pictures from ALL THE CLONES I CAN GET. Everytime I get Pics from a certain clone, I will create the Database Page. But since I couldn't get Pictures yet, there aren´t any pages there. So don´t be shy and hook me up with some so we can get the Database rolling. The Trichocereus-Growers will love it!

hey, I am sure interested in this, but due to the recent disaster most of my plants are pretty scarred. later in the season I will probably be able to organise a photo shoot for this awesome project.

Will you make giants sections , taquimbalensis, pasacana, chiloensi, terscheckii sections?

if yeah I got very good specimens to offer photos

I want to propose also a TIG VS psycho0 project. cause if you make a psycho0 section, I would like to offer TIG photos with the hint that its probably the same. ( gunter suggested that psycho) has a certain spinal formation which to me sounded indentical to TIG, by far the fattest bridgesii I have grown.

Hi mutant! Thanks for offering your help! Scars are actually not a problem. I want the site to be a Trichocereus Archive and i want people to find a pic of every variety that exists in a few clicks, you know? And if some are scarred, so be it.

Yes, will have extensive sections for the big fatties like terscheckii pasacana and such. With all the varieties.

Would love to have an Article with the comparison of the TIG vs psycho0. In addition to the Database pages.

despite I am not really organised, in the whole 6 years into cacti, I got tons of photos. I will try to skim through the old stuff. I got some nice shots of TIG, but I dont actually own Psycho). ALso, in my opinion Eileen is not especially fatty or something special. but I do have a nice awesome, special "4winds" bridgesii. This tends to go 4 rib and is the bluest bridgesii by far I have grown.

And actually my biggest tricho experience, relatively is in bridgesiis.

hey could NZ pachanoi be actually a pachanoi X scopulicola hybrid? I just had a flash. NZ pachanoi has the smallest spines of all pachanoi I have grown. yowie being probably the spinier one.

I know we got more topics to discuss phenotypes, but this seems like the right thread (currently active) to throw out some ideas

peace and grow on!

Those are my photos and it is bridgesii not cuzcoensis.

And EG feel free to use my photos from the Huntington, I can send you higher res files if you want too.

Hi Guys, just wanted to give you an update since i am a bit overloaded with work to earn money to keep cheques from bouncing and shit! :) Will be working on the site during the next week for at least 2 or 3 days since I am doing a time consuming Webdesign job right now. So i will definitely be uploading ALL the pics i got!

Thanks to all who agreed to share some pics! The site will be so great with all your help and i greatly appreciate it! Also looking for helpers if anyone wants to help uploading pics or writing Articles. The Interface of this website allows me to add Users as Editors who can upload pictures and write Articles. Can obviously only accept trusted members and friends for that, but if you want to write a Tutorial or a comparison between certain strains, varieties, Species or just add a Taxonomic Article, i am very happy to have you there. People who have their own website and want to write a guest Article can add their Backlink to promote their Business. Have nothing against shameless self promotion as long as the content you add is of value to the site. But will certainly not post nonsense Articles just for having backlinks and such.

Finally updating again! Just started uploading some pics people donated for the site and experimented around a bit! Added a nice pic of a Caespitose Loph on the front Page that Jack donated and created the first Page for the Database! Rosei 2! Just to figure out the best way to post and keep track of them. And i think i found a good way. Right now, i created a Post and added a Gallery so the text/description comes first and then the gallery. Have no Text yet because i will post the pics first and add the text after that!

Gotta add that Prier is fantastic btw! He sent me a magnitude of great pics for the database and i will do nothing but uploading during this week! Also, thanks to Philocacti, Double Action, Jack, Mutant, Interbeing, Trout, Zelly, Thunderhorse and all the others who agreed to donate pics! I will let you guys know once everything is uploaded!

This community is truly terrific and i will make sure the site does us justice!

Am going to bed right now but you can expect some more pics in the next 24 hours!

Hey Guys, am in the process of doing some major Updates on the trichocereus.net Website.

1. The Front Page. Exchanged a lot of Pics because I think the Pics on the Front Page should consist more of Trichocereus than other Cacti. The Pics that are on there right now are the Ones that fit the Layout. Have some more that will be placed on the Frontpage every now and then so this is purely experimental. Today, i will most likely spend a few hours Uploading Pics and changing things.

2. Some People agreed to help, and the website will be updated regularly with interesting Articles about Trichocereus and cacti as well as new pics! Cactus Porn all the Way.

3. I´ve added the First Clones in the Clone Database. So far, Rosei 1 and Rosei 2 and PC Pachanoi. More to come later today. The text will follow too, as soon as I´ve written descriptions and such. But i also need more pics and measurements by people to describe the clones. Also need some Info about their History. My brain is defunct, so please someone help my memories.

4. Again, thank y´all very much for your help and your pictures. The website would not be possible without your help!

5. Please keep making suggestions about things to change. We will never stop improving this website and i will get to change some of the things that people already suggested later today or during the week.

6. Torsten agreed to give me another Subforum (he usually strongly dislikes creating new forums for good reasons so give the man some applause) because i think it would make sense to Create a Subforum for the Database on SAB. Forum is closed, non-Discussion and it will have one Thread per clone. Purely Informational with the Text and Pics from the website. You Guys will love this!

.

And now, Have Fun with the Pics!

OK, the Update has been a lot more substantial than expected! I basically redid most of the Pages and inserted many more pics! Thanks again, Prier! Website really kicks ass now!

You have to check these out! They are awesome!

Pasacana:

Grandiflora

And many more! Candicans, Bogan, Yowie, Rosei, and so on! This is finally getting somewhere!

Hi Nameless! ;) Well, thanks! This Update was THE BIGGEST i ever did and i think i added at least 200 Pics yesterday. I also re-did a lot of the Gallery Pages and will do the same with the others. I want to present the pics in Rows of three instead of the chaotic Sorting that´s on there now. I´m getting better with the Layout and have figured out a better way to arrange the pics and will make use of it now. Since the Update yesterday, Visitors have exploded. Well, not themselves, but the number of visitors! :) I guess people seem to like it! But i am not nearly done!

wow, excellent work on the update. i find the site layout much better for laptop navigating personally.

i was marvelling at whose garden that yowie belongs to and i see it's prier's, v.nice

also the links under friends lead to a 404, seems each link is structured thus:

Thanks Bot6! Fixed the stuff with the Links. Accidentally had two Pages of Links. One on "Our Friends" and One on "Links". So i removed the Links Page and will use the Our Friends instead. Links seem to work there too. Would like to add Web-Banners for SAB and Trout if they can send me some.

About the Yowie, i will need to look into tomorrow or so. The pics were labeled Yowie so i just uploaded. But i am sure there are some of the real Yowie somewhere. So this is cv. NICE instead? Any more Info? Search will probably spit out millions of Threads because of the word nice.
