waterboy 2.0 Posted January 31, 2014 (edited) Have a mad idea...interested in constructing a tyvek item.... As its plastic anyone know of the best bonding method? EDIT - I go through a few Tyvek overalls and at times the material is recyclable The item is along the lines of a backpack OK google puts me onto a few leads, but interested if anyone has worked with it Edited January 31, 2014 by waterboy
El Presidente Hillbillios Posted January 31, 2014 we have one side perforated plastic coated tyvek at work for packing some jobs. The guys that send things to us using it just sew it together just like material
waterboy 2.0 Posted February 1, 2014 (edited) Sweet HB, I was leaning towards sewing it up and putting tyvek tape over joins (used for repairing book spines ) to ensure a waterproof seal. Bit like what they do with gortex gear. Can't avoid ambient humidity, but want to keep rain from penetrating. My sewing skills are not mad...lol Edited February 1, 2014 by waterboy
Alice Posted February 1, 2014 Check out the Wikipedia page for Tyvek. It lists the manufacturers recommended adhesives.
MikeyMagic Posted February 1, 2014 There are two main types of plastic; Thermo-plastics; these can be heated and reshaped and Tyvek would fall into this catagory. Heating an element and pressing the parts together might work..
