THERE'S been a decrease in the number of drug-related arrests at Melbourne's Big Day Out music festival.

A total of 29 people were arrested for drug offences on Friday, down from 40 people at the same festival at the Melbourne Showgrounds last year.

Acting Superintendent Bernie Edwards says only a small number of the 23,000 music fans at the festival were doing the wrong thing.

"We were generally happy with patron behaviour throughout the day, and it looks like most people enjoyed the event," he said.

"It is disappointing that 29 people didn't get the message."

Sniffer dogs were used to find revellers carrying illegal drugs.

Police seized drugs such as ecstasy, amphetamines and cannabis.

Of the 29 arrested, 15 people have been referred to a drug diversion program and 14 have been cautioned.

The Big Day Out heads next to Sydney on Australia Day.

-----------------------------------------------------

I'm wondering if it's just because people are becoming smarter* at getting drugs through, that numbers of arrests are dropping, and want to know whether that trend continues to BDO Sydney.

* It's better if you have them rolled up and where the dogs can't detect them (a cigarette pack?)," replied the official - http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=37477 of 23/1/14

a cop looking for drugs isn't going to leave a cigarette pack unopened.

If you are actually searched, they will most likely find it, unless...

best to use your prison pocket like we practiced ;)

and even then, you'd hope the cops aren't too zealous

The idea of the advice to hide it in your cigarettes is to hopefully mask the scent so the dogs don't indicate you and you don't get searched. No idea if it works, but the advice has nothing to do with hiding it where the cops won't look

OR....

People are taking larger amounts before going in hoping it will last all day.

Harm minimisation in effect

such as...

using sloppy hiding technique, and failing to mega-dose beforehand.

Bring a pouch and put it in there... gets lost in the tobacco and if they ask just apologise and say you didn't know that was in there :P

Or don't get all timid and sus when cops are around....

...why do people struggle -_-

chances the cops got enough good eccies off the public to enjoy the rest of the festival.

good to see the majority got cautioned or a slap on the wrist.

it would be one of the best times of the year for coppers just go to the fest stroll around have a perv listen to some nice music, then get a small quota so you can come back next year.

fuckers!
