Myeloblast
I bottom water all my pereskiopsis, they sit in clear plastic trays all the time. I just flood the tray and they soak it up. The potting mix used and the number/size of drainage holes in the pot play a big part in how well they wick up water. When the mix dries out completely, you have to raise the water level more for it to wick up water adequately, at least in my experience.
EthnoGuy85
A shallow tray or pan just deeper than the pots are. Place pots in said tray/pan.Slowly fill with water until the water is just lower than the pots rims like a 1/8in or couple mm lower than pot rim let sit for 10 mins or so. Then remove from tray

Popular Post AZS
Started from Zelly's seed - at nearly 2 years and growing great - just starting to show their traits. These have always been outside and are currently under 30% shade cloth. sascacheuan
Hello AZS.It seems you have several hundreds of trichos. Have you thought to do a selection??. Perhaps you have there a champion in something. For example, I am searching a clone which it may be fast growing, cold hardy, wet soil tolerant., etc...Fast growing would be the easiest trait to recognize.

If you start with good seed, you will have much better results Rest assured I will seek out the champions and hopefully, in the future, be able to offer seeds or cuttings of those plants!

It's about 90F during the day and 82F at night,.... doesnt fluctuate much beyond those temps. :D Lemme know dude if you can or are willing to help.Wow... you live on a tropical island ! which one? Just a side note: Saguaros bloom in May - June during the hottest part of the year here in Arizona - just before the monsoon rains start in July. Daytime temperatures over 120F are sometimes encountered and night time lows are usually in the mid 80's. These plants have adapted to the heat and seasonal rain. Many populations of wild cacti time their flowering to coincide with each other (and any potential pollinators) and also the local climate. These conditions can be precariously balanced and if upset can be disastrous for a speciesAs for my Trichs, many are just now reaching flowering size and the seedlings may take a few more years. I will note which ones flower during the hotter months and make it a point to cross pollinate them to reinforce that trait - would be an interesting experiment and rewarding to perform. Will keep everyone posted when I get some results. On your island do you think there may be other factors that could be affecting flowering such as soil type, nutrients, fertilizer, water, lighting etc.? Perhaps you should open a thread on Trich flowering to see what other members are experiencing? You may be surprised - someone in this forum may already have the answers you are looking for!
Dreamwalker.
my guess is they need the cold to prime them...Woof's tropical island isn't going to accommodate that...maybe find a friendly cool storage owner on the island...& park some of the trichs in there for several weeks.....maybe 3 - 6 c...or stick them by the air conditioner?.....sorry Woof, these are just guesses...but I would have thought members from north Qld would have the same problems???
