Synthetic drug stores to be shut down in S.A.

 

The Reynell Report.

 

Nineteen synthetic drug products, which mimic the effect of legal drugs, or are marketed as such, were banned by Attorney General John Rau in June this year.

 

Particular chemicals that may be contained in synthetic drugs have also been banned.

 

The Attorney General has now proposed laws that shut down shops that sell synthetic drugs.

 

Under the proposed laws police may seek an order for a store to cease trading, if it repeatedly puts these dodgy products on its shelves.

 

As mentioned in the last Reynell Report, the government is doing all it can to stop the purchase of these products on the internet.

 

A national approach is needed, and South Australia will raise the issue with the new Commonwealth Attorney General, as well as pushing for a quick passage of laws through the South Australian Parliament.

What you have also missed is a proposed change to section 33K of the Controlled Substances Act 1984 which (if I'm reading it right) would increase the penalties for growing cannabis and removes the rules about growing 5 plants or less. Maybe someone more familiar with SA law can check it out.

I would have thought the analog laws in Australia would have covered the synthetic drugs that previously were getting around & sold at many tobacconists, maybe not the cannabinoids.

I thought so too, But perhaps its a stretch trying to prosecute with these analog laws so a more rigid system has been introduced?

It is the final "death spasm" before legalization inevitably comes.

No self respecting human being can go on forever watching its fellow so persecuted over such a victimless "crime" regarding a herb that has more benefit to mankind than not. If someone is stupid enough to abuse something to the point of self harm then that is an issue something altogether and entirely different. Fining and jailing responsible cannabis users will not stop idiots from harming themselves. It only harms the responsible ones. They may as well start fining tobacco smokers for having cancer and arresting them if they keep smoking. It is just absurd. It is about revenue.

I am reminded of a scene from "Nice Dreams" (Cheech and Chong) as it portrays our politicians and the way the manage the budget.
