My new house!

Recommended Posts

Hey all

I've just moved house and the new property is old and pretty established. Biggest lemon tree I've seen! I wondered if some of you kind people could let me know what I have growing around here.

It's really nice, but a lot of it is overgrown and I need to do some clearing. There's quite a bit on one side that I am a bit worried about as far as fire danger is concerned.

Anyway, onto the pics!

This tree is huge and at the back of the property. Really waxxy leaves.

There is all sorts of shit in this photo. What's the ground cover with the white flowers?

Lemon tree, camphor? tree and assorted plants. Cool stuff

This is a view towards the road. All sorts of shit going on

This thumbnail wouldn't attach properly. It's the one with the compost bin and sticks, easy to find.

I think that's a sweet potato coming out of the compost bin. This shows a small amount of the snake haven that is all along that side of the fence. So many branches and leaves overgrown with grass. . . Snake haven and fire hazard. This is my first priority.

This one wouldn't work either. It's the other un-attached image.

There's some sort of vine on that tree. I think it's an artichoke or choko. . . not sure.

Either way, lots of work to be done, but lots of potential too! I am going to put some cactus in the ground once I've got some shit cleared.

It's a bit hard to say from some of those pics man. Can you get close up pics of the leaves from the ones you want ID's for ?

Good luck in the new place mate, it looks like you have your work cut out for you.

It looks like it has good soil, for the grass and plants to be in such good condition after this protracted dry spell I'd say it's doing quite well.

I can set you up with some cactus, if you want some let me know.

If you want to know what kind of citrus tree you have crush a leaf up in your fingers and it will smell like the fruit.

Prune back some of the lower branches so you can get the mower under there. Shouldn't be too much hassle once it's mowed.

Plenty of potential, keep us posted :)

I agree I'm going to have to do some pruning! Hillbilly says I need a goat. Sounds like a plan, but how to contain the fucker?! Once I get the whipper snipper fixed I can get in there and sort it. It's has so much potential though!

Is Hillbilly still trying to sell his goats ?

The only goat I'd have would be marinated in garlic sauce & slow roasted over charcoal.

I've got a few other things you might want too mate, we'll have to catch up soon.

Deffo, SallyD! I'd be keen for some cactus. Going to stick a bunch in the ground. I'll have to come see you when uni isn't bending me over and taking me for all I'm worth.

You could grow all sorts of plants in that back yard and no-one would be any the wiser.

Yeah, Halcyon. I just need some plants to put in! (and some room)

Also, naja, thanks for the IDs, I broke the leaves of the 'camphor' and smelt them, didn't get anything. I thought camphor had a very strong smell.

Once I get the whipper snipper going (need a tool so I can take out the spark plug and check it out) I will get to cutting some of those grasses.
