Yeti101 Posted June 21, 2013 HUNDREDS of Aussies are flocking to remote parts of the Amazon each year to ingest a hallucinogenic jungle vine and be "cured" by shamans. http://anonym2.com/?http://www.news.com.au/travel/australians-flock-to-peru-for-8216spiritual-awakening8217/story-e6frfq7r-1226667235924">www.news.com.au/travel/australians-flock-to-peru-for-8216spiritual-awakening8217/story-e6frfq7r-1226667235924 Not the best article ever , but when measured against the deplorably low standard of what passes as 'journalism' these days it could have been much worse. Possibly more balanced than Ch 7's effort, but that is hardly an acheivment worth celebrating. Clearly these journalists think that most of their audience are deeply ignorant and/or medically stupid. The sad thing is that most of the comments thus far do not do much to disprove this hypothesis. Rak and AYA: Awakenings get a mention; I wonder how much publicity this will generate? Anyway, if some people want to go on and make some comments on that story that are positive and/or not insane (unlike the majority of what has already been said in reaction to this), that would be great. qualia Posted June 21, 2013 it wouldn't surprise me if in the future there was a bill introduced in parliament to prosecute aussies who go to SA to take aya,
Vine Voice Posted June 24, 2013 They can't stop the mother whatever they do. The ridiculous thing is that they don't even see that they are also her, so they have such a delusion that they are fighting themselves and trying to make themselves illegal. The article was okay, but sensationalist really. Like it is such a crazy thing to go to Peru and do ceremonies...well it actually is crazy, but maybe it's a sign of how crazy our culture has made us that we are willing to go half way around the world to drink this horrible-tasting jungle brew that makes us sick as dogs and does things we don't even understand. I love Ayahuasca, but it just doesn't make any sense. In that way, it's an antidote to this culture where so many things are sensible and rational and predictable. The antidote to insanity is insanity
Vine Voice Posted August 5, 2013 Another stupid, biased, and misinformed article about 'backpackers flocking' to Peru. This one is basically a clone of so many other articles with the same prejudice and propaganda: http://www.theage.com.au/travel/travel-news/deadly-warning-on-peru-tea-travel-20130803-2r6ga.html
