I don't think that abuse is a clever way to use "drugs".

And teens would do their best in an atmosphere like portugal where better life choices may be made.because not everything is banned.

Not by some know-nothing know-it-all who wants to run your life and make your choices for you but by the intellegence and wisdom accumulated by individual and collective sovreigns.

If we wait for the results of endless safety testing then nothing but ignorance and stupidity will reighn for another generation.

I don't know about "plastic in lungs" but its easy enough to find those plasticlike residues in pipes that have only been used for these blends. I'm curious what the objection to people's honest experiential reports is? Light and moderate smokers seem to be fine but there are heavy smokers who do are showing some common threads in their accounts. Its probably good to suggest they smoke more weed.

One thing that might be helpful to recall is we are not talking about one blend or substance but rather a number of blends with a potential range of different cannabonoid agonists (the identity of which is rarely included with the labelling but in some cases it can be determined by asking the producers). I don't recall this being true with the original Spice that Eshu released (and I never encountered this claim at all until the last year making me wonder if it is limited to one molecule) but it sure is looking that way with at least some of the blends around now. Its almost as troublesome to discuss cannabinoid agonists as it is 'bathsalts' since we may or may not be discussing the same molecules.

Mycot - when you comment its a disproven urban myth, what were the details of that? Did people look at what was being reported to cause problems for other people or the blend in their own hands? Or was that detail included in the account? More info would be greatly appreciated.

As for bans?

People should be able to huff high octane gasoline and eat strychnine if they want those experiences. Its none of my interests to control anyone else but sharing experiences, good or bad is a great idea. It SHOULD up to the individual to decide what is right for them.

For example, I decided I don't have interest in inhaling solvents due to my perception of that being harmful to my health but I'd sure never think a law was needed to ban them. If someone wants the experience that is their free will decision. If someone wants to do something that they know will harm them or kill them we might even want to view that as a form of darwinian evolution in action. No one wins from trying to protect everyone as if they are people who are really stupid.

If someone is selling something they know to be toxic without letting its consumers have any way to know, that crosses a different line but that is a labelling issue.

Government simply does not have any business (or the wisdom) to be someone's nanny.

Thanks Trucha for a well-reasoned post.

Personally I don't touch any of these new substances because of:

* the lack of certainty of the identity of the substance(s)

* the lack of knowledge of their medium and long-term effects and

* the fact that the active compounds and full effects of the substances that they are trying to emulate are well-understood and the full range of consequences, both positive and negative, have been fully explored by many before me.

Such a shame that the originals are blanket-banned because many of these are confidently known to be relatively safe.

I can confirm personal experience with plasticky residues in the respiratory tract from the earlier synth noids - this arose from only moderate levels of consumption (when legal of course). The taste and smell of the synths was horrible when compared to the original......

Thats all good and well but we still have to work within the sytem we are a part of and there is no doubting in my mind that information about safer drug use is very helpful and saves peoples health and lives.

Because of the current situation a lot of info has to come from annecdotal evidence, but thats a part of why more testing needs to be done.

Im not saying the ban is good or bad because its a complex issue, all Im saying is that if these compounds are available then making sure they are the safer ones is far better than not, similar to how the NZ model is going.

These people are making millions off these products so why shouldnt they spend some of it on saftey testing and safe manufacture?

Just look at the old case of that guy in the US that was making MPPP for the heroin market, he made MPTP and gave everyone Parkinsons disease. Whats to stop something like that happening here?

Are you suggesting these sorts of harm minimization efforts are pointless?

As a prior member of ravesafe and an ex heavy IV drug user I know from personal experince that safe using and drug saftey information has helped to save me and other people from a lot of harm and or death.

Trucha, thats why I gave 018 as specific example and because IIRC in Australia 018 was main one available for some years.
From the annecdotal evidence, I feel 018 is much safer than most of the ones available commonly today.
