Hi Thelema!

how could we be the same person?
since a person is defined by their limitations and exclusion
persona is Latin for the masks actors wore in dramatic plays
maybe all living things are expressions of the same consciousness
maybe it's just electric monkey meat spazzing out
illusions generated by our biology

what I don't get is
if our brains like all life are products of dualistic processes
and we therefore inescapably perceive everything in dualities
aren't dual/nondual states of mind another duality?

at the very least we can say all life emerged from the interplay of opposites
the bright hot shafts of father sun penetrated the dank primordial mists of mother earth
and life emerges at the continuing, fragile meridian of harmonious interplay between the two
our local syzygy
parochial expression of the dyad
so how could we know anything when these dualities are what our brain is built from?

I also want to know if to be 'all one' is to be literally al-one... are all distinctions illusory?

Even if we joined minds, wouldn't that just make one slightly larger, even more confused mind?

It isn't just about us all being one.

When you ask " Are you the same person that is asking this?" there is a question as to what or who is doing the 'asking' and if it is in some sense you. Are you an isolated bit of your cognitive processes? Is there any such thing as 'you'? Are you the same person you were 10 years ago? How about last month? Last night? 3 minutes ago whn you first read the question?

We are all geese and nowhere in this universe does one molecule of dead platypus remain unscathed.

that's right - is it you asking the question of yourself, or is it me asking the question of you?

Far from being random stuff, this is meant to provide a path into advaitic awareness

and conveniently also points to some deeply hidden assumptions about questions, language, personhood and information transmittance.

If a man puts a gosling into a bottle, and feeds him through the neck of the bottle until he is full-grown, how can the man get the goose out without killing it or breaking the bottle?

i tell myself that this is central to my beliefs (we're all god. there's one being and you're it, and i'm it) but admittedly missed the point until, i think it was yeti, explained it.

actually i saw you in chat and asked a question hoping you'd respond and i'd see it.. and vaguely thought this might be your odd way of accepting a conversation.

Are you?

I do not know.

I do not know what knowing is.

If I ask it of you then the answer is no

If you ask it of yourself the answer must also be no.

therefore posing yourself a question, this question, shows that in asking, a person is dis-associating themselves.

Reflexivity therefore unmantles the wholeness

And we assume that being reflective is spiritual

when what it does is dis-associate.

Can always rely on a drunk to provide advaitic awareness....just ask chogyam trungpa rinpoche... he never led anyone astray

Two former students of Trungpa, John Steinbeck IV and his wife, wrote a sharply critical memoir of their lives with him in which they claim that, in addition to alcohol, Trungpa used $40,000 a year worth of cocaine, and used Seconal to come down from the cocaine.

Holy shit that's a lot of cocaine at US prices at the time... like an eight ball a day at a guess, much much more if he bought in bulk.
