Here is a trich that whenever grew a new shoot, the slaters or snails had a munch which created a new growth. I think it looks like icecream scoops on top of each other. Quite funky.

post-13197-0-40527700-1378081060_thumb.j

this one I have had for maybe 12 years, taken as a cut then stayed dormant for about 10 years. Only in the last cupl years have these top shoots formed. I'm still unsure to what this specie is....

Unexpected happening, I had grafted a TBM clumper pup to pereskiopsis. It grew nicely, finished the first branch, and made its 'foreskin'.

I moved it under stronger lighting so the coming pup would grow nice and fat. But it poked spines out of its tip. It now has six new areoles showing :scratchhead:

post-146-0-73834000-1378083148_thumb.jpg

Do they normally resume column growth if lighting is changed?

This is not so much a freak but it is just pupping like one.

Some times I will get a graft that will lean over as the pere bulges at the union of the graft. This one pushed the scion over so it was hanging of the side of the pere. It was attached well and was still growing so I just let it be.

It then did something I haven't seen before and it started pupping from the base of the graft and then has continued to pup like crazy.

Variegated loph pups

The mother is grafted onto pere and got hammered by mites which has turned out to be a positive for propagating as they forced it to pup quite heavily.

Time to graft my Fred too!

Haha, thanks GoT, I'll take a nice picture when the sun is shining and they're potted up :P

also @CactusKate they were given to me by a friend who got them from the US...

I cut the Boob so that I can use one to get a few pups, so if you're willing to wait, I'll hopefully have a few pups in a while to trade off!

Also, monstrose Schottii's appear every now and then on eBay (I think Collectors corner is selling one at the moment).

Does anyone else here have a Schottii monstrose spiralis? If not I might cut one so I can cultivate some pups!

The Fred grafts were taken from a small piece that had three lumps like little pups and I cut them of and grafted them onto pere. All of them took I cant remember if I used anything to hold them down. I probably didn't as they were very small.

I will dig up some pics that were taken around the time they were grafted which will also show how long they have been grafted for.

Haha, thanks GoT, I'll take a nice picture when the sun is shining and they're potted up :P

I was trying to point out that I could see the USA postal services priority mail sticker on it which could imply that you had broken the law but that's cool as it sounds like your mate might have not you.

Variegated Lopho, could be Jourdaniana I've mixed up the labels :)

Almost no chlorophyll at all on this one..... which is nice to look at but sucks because they are susceptible to everything, sun damage, pests, disease etc. It is growing well for now.

EDIT: sorry about the shitty pic taken on my phone and in a rush :)

maybe one 'good' way of growing these is grafting them whenever they pup and expecting a casual loss. hell a very worrying job to maintain them.

GOT, thanks for the update on fred, looks very promising, and some kind memeber offered some, so I might try it some time soon.

now some of mine:

Remember this plant?

This is currently my most esteemed pachanoi monster / crest specimen. It is coming from kada's garden.

Despite it's so pretty as is I am considering cutting the column turning crest. It should form an awesome specimen itself.....

P1100724.jpg

P1100725.jpg

This is another very esteemed specimen of mine. This is the cresty crest clone, but this specimen comes from a piece that was going crazy or something - that is forming many smaller sources of crestation and also some forms a bit strange. It took nicely and is developing to a complex individual and even making attempts for a column as in the pictures.

Some other of the cresty var , very chopped at the base also did attemts to form monster columns from new pups. I doubt I am confusing the clones.

P1100727.jpg

P1100728.jpg

P1100729.jpg

===

I have said it many times, I am pretty good at chopping pachanoi crest relentlessly, lol. If you do it long enough, most awesome secimens can be created....

Now Myrtillocactus monsters

I am not really sure wheather these are really different clones, or how many variations really exist. I for one understand these are not the crest types, which I got too, but is not depicted. (interesting note: I had two myrticrest cuttings with rootlets die on me !! - going really slow on them next time! )

The one on the left is grafted on myrti , whereas the other is own rooted and doing some really strange shit. I have seen the mother plant , dont really remeber it well but I thing it looked very strange and melty with lots of strange melty and rather thin clones... I am not sure it got enough light though.... Time will tell.

[P1100734.jpg

P1100746.jpg

^^^^

this piece is also going, I am going to see how it will grow own roots....

and lastly....

Have no idea what this is, but I think I have also grown a normal branch from this and it turned up like an aporocactus, you know, rat tail cactus, the hanging type - happily the one growing normally is budding and soon flowering. Whata thing it is??
