Here are a couple more I got... Heavy As Loving Fuck Monstrose lol
These were the ones I originally ordered when the first one was sent to me by mistake...

These are also about 5 inches thick... I swear they musta chopped these down with an axe or some shit
Im only showing the pretty sides, one has an ugly split down the other side and both are missing

big chunks but they have plenty of green to work with...

I ended up paying shipping twice but it was worth since I am a Pachaphile

IMO yours is either a true pach or mostly pachanoid plant.. I could definitely settle for Pachanoi Monstrose as the label for that plant.. No one really knows the origin of the PC Pach and thus why its assumed that its likely some hybrid chosen for its small spines at some point or whatever reason... all the others Pachanois are either 'true' or hybrids...There are pachanoids from different regions which are distinct from each other... there are also naturally occuring hybrids which could lean one way or the other as well...

I have to admit the super long spines at the tip of yours throws me off a little but it may look more natural when it gets bigger... that and the fact that its monstrose can cause all sorts of variation... its a nice plant tho and I hope to eventually have one like that growing next to my other triches... maybe someday cross a monster with a monster and make little monsters :P

I have been doing some deading and research and I have seen a plant thT resembles mine its caleed a tree climber sausage plant. And its listed as a brig. Apperently it vame from Ritter boss, and not even he knows exactly what it is and admiys it looks pachanoid.

Yours really does remind me of that plant, however the major difference is that the 'Sausage' Plant terminates and grows over and over whereas yours has grown one straight column... The tip on your seems to have gotten fatter but from what I can tell it didn't 'Terminate' and then pup out of the top like the Sausage plant... but I agree it looks alot like it and what it does have in common is that it seems to show multiple plant features which is why I personally wouldn't rule out it being a hybrid... Should be interesting to watch it grow with a little more care and attention than at the nursery... But if I had to bet i'd say there's at least some Pachanoi in there and I'd guess the same on the Sausage plant, but both are just edumacated guesses

I meant to update this before but time just got away from me... some really cool stuff happened with these pretty ladies...

to start off with, I went ahead after a while and I cut Pachanoi C.V. Half, um, in Half.... I didn't feel like trying to root a log so huge and one half was damaged.. it was a spur of the moment decision that turned out to be a good'n.... Another thing is I agreed with someone else who got some of this plant, that the name should be called "Jessica"

post-11432-0-18774300-1376529259_thumb.j

anyhow... these logs were drying out in the top shelf of a closet back in early april, and after a couple weeks it was time to move them and one of them had sprouted some cauliflowers! and interestingly these offsets popped out from the middle of the column and were pushing downwards into that foam cushion thingy... the other half also had some that were a little more green but since they were deprived of light I put them in indirect light right away so they could green up, which they did in a few days

post-11432-0-58284000-1376529576_thumb.j post-11432-0-37055400-1376529726_thumb.j

Here are the monstrose ones and the two halfs, about 2 weeks after that... some more offsets grew out

I was wondering when it was going to stop...I thought it maybe a fluke cause I waited a bit to cut them but

It was reported to me that the other ones someone else got also put out alot offsets

post-11432-0-82365900-1376529944_thumb.j post-11432-0-16321300-1376529999_thumb.j

And here they are about 3 weeks ago... they've sorta slowed down with high temperatures, but thats alot of growth for

3-4 months! And we are now entering back into growth spurt time... We really had a mild summer compared to the norm here but it was still pretty hot... its still summer but according to the forecast we've reached our cooling down period after this front that came in yesterday... whew!

post-11432-0-24290600-1376530375_thumb.j post-11432-0-58214400-1376530634_thumb.j post-11432-0-25667500-1376530658_thumb.j

Here are the semi monstrose ones.. they were smaller chunks but growing pretty well too!

post-11432-0-51481200-1376531109_thumb.j post-11432-0-85237500-1376531130_thumb.j

These are so nice to look at! For a while I was sitting next to them on a daily basis.. but its been way too hot

until the last few days.. I meant to have a group photo by now but none of those came out right and plus I need to

do a bit of re-arranging...

but i'll update with a group photo once they get alot larger, probably by the end of our growing season, which here can be like November-Decemberish...

Cheers!

Wow! Those are beautiful! I love monstrose trichs. Most of my collection is comprised of monstrose and semi monstrose bridge, pach, and peru specimen. I have never seen pupping like that before though!

Props

These are some of the first that I potted in a better mix that I started mixing this year, real compost ph balanced with some coir and perlite.. im pretty sure the thickness of the cuts and the genetics has most to do with it, but im really proud that I did it right lol I can't wait for some to get more huge cause I want to grow some in the ground.. Im gonna have my beds prepared by next spring, I say that at least lol

Thanks for all the nice comments im just glad I could share and feel good about it cause they really are some beauties and

just being next to them is a real pleasure.. you can say they that finding them was somewhat of a dream come true :P

Peace!

I just said medusa cause they grow alot of arms... one is regular and one is semi monstrose

Im wonding just how much the monstrose will show but its still cool looking

the grooves tend to be a little sideways and theres a wierd aerole that grew bigger with no spines

the other side shows a little section on one that had the most monstrosing going on but its not a whole lot yet

but the plant is just a little different:P

seems like its kind of a rib shifter but really nice looken I think

Well awesome job with providing it the environment to branch out like that.

If you ever see something of mine that you like and you have an extra pup, let me know. :) Because that is an awesome clone!

You have some very nice plants! I'll PM ya

Most of mine slowed down with the heat but they just got a little treat last night as we enter our cool down

but looks like its gonna be really hot days with little chance of rain for at least 10 more days eh

Spine Collector I've never really been into cactus myself, I don't have any not a single one, living at the tip of the daintree I haven't bothered. (although after quick research it should be a decent climate for Trichs?) but dayuuum Lil bit keen after seeing some of your photos around the place

Yeah I think it would... if anyone has raised trichos in the rainforest please chime in

I think for most species it would need to be a place where theres alot of sunlight

though some will tolerate or even prefer at least some shade... am I getting the right picture?

in their native habitat they have a wet and dry season but its more likes a constant mist for their wet season

at least in some places... but the Andes is such a huge place ... im sure you could properly adjust the soil or use a hoop house or something. they are really capable of adjusting to an environment but each can vary a bit

anyone grow Trichos in a rainforest?

Im way over in the states.. I had to look up Daintree!

I think I caught the bug here on SAB... I can't help that its contagious!
but im happy to spread some cactus enthusiasm :innocent_n:
