Conv3rgence Posted May 2, 2016 I'm curious about using zygo stock, I have one neglected plant but never tried. Is it similar to using hylocereus? I've found with hylocereus that the scions needed to be over 3 months old and that o had to use new shoots or supple green growth only.
theuserformallyknownasd00d Posted May 2, 2016 (edited) WOW, last I read zygocactus was a no-go for grafts. Serves me right for believing everything I see on the Internet, doesn't it? This opens up whole new avenues for mad science. Was this on Instagram? There was a guy there arguing with me and ruining my posts lol. I can see how people would fail quickly with it, but if you follow the video mostly and tweak to your environment you'll get em cranking. theuserformallyknownasd00d Posted May 2, 2016 (edited) I'm curious about using zygo stock, I have one neglected plant but never tried. Is it similar to using hylocereus? I've found with hylocereus that the scions needed to be over 3 months old and that o had to use new shoots or supple green growth only. I just selected pads based on the video. Fresh and juicey with a bit of new growth or small pads growing out the top. But I rooted em first. Don't be afraid it's barely balancing on the zygo it'll join fine. I'll post some more detailed pics soon if people think it's cool and worth it. Maybe it's even it's own thread worthy I dunno. Next season will be my big one with it, I plan to do over 200+ zygo grafts to nut it out i personally want to work it out purely for its effect on the scion, they grow almost perfect to form. This obviously isn't good for trichs as they'll outgrow the stock fast, but smaller things like astro etc and slower growing types. Also because it grows in absolute abundance it's great to have on hand in tubes etc for when Peres/DF is low and you need a stock. GorrilaGardener Posted May 2, 2016 11-12 days since my last photo. I estimate the volume of the largest one has grown by nearly 20x since then. Wow! having only just started to play around with grafting, i can't believe how much growth those put on only after 2 weeks, is growth normally this rapid when it comes to grafts? djmattz0r Posted May 3, 2016 (edited) First post in a while, trying to figure out the new editor so hopefully this goes well... I grafted a small piece of TBMC to an offset of a large Myrtillocactus growing in the greenhouse about 6 months ago to try and see what types of growth I would get from such a large stock, I wasn't disappointed. Can't seem to find any pictures of the original scion but here is the earliest one I could find. The Myrtillo stock with the TBMC at the top Some nice crested spines Here's what it looked like today. I need to get a picture with something better for scale but it is the fattest TBMC I have ever seen, probably 8" tall and 6" wide atm Edited May 3, 2016 by djmattz0r handforscale

BedOSpines Posted May 6, 2016 Still lovin this zygo stock... Really allows the scion to grow true to shape etc. Are you going to try out Hatiora gaertneri dood?
theuserformallyknownasd00d Posted May 6, 2016 I have a few hatiora sp but they aren't big enough to try this on yet, maybe in a season or two when I nut this zygo out. I did manage to graft a hatiora salicornioides onto zygo and Peres tho lol
Distracted Posted May 8, 2016 Taken today, 08/05/16 Why is my graft still flowering/fruiting in May? lol

BedOSpines Posted May 20, 2016 Dood got me interested in trying this out. Rhipsalidopsis under koehresii first attempt, this is a red flowering clone. It seems to have the meatiest stem pieces, trying a rather old bit. Seems very sticky so I'm hopeful. And another with two segments

nrivers Posted May 30, 2016 Some ariocarpus grafts. Found they took to grafting very easy Love the look of these grafted!
Conv3rgence Posted May 30, 2016 Those look awesome nrivers, so healthy! How do you prevent the arios from pupping on Peres? I've found so far that if I cut the Ario scion quite short it generally doesn't pup as much as taller cut scions.
nrivers Posted May 30, 2016 To be honest Conv3rgence, these are the first ario grafts I have done! But I will take your tip on board, as I have a few more that are ready for grafting shortly
