Help with hundreds please? pay postage = free stuff

Question

Hello who ever is moderating this. I hope whats below is ok. Please advise why if not. Thanks

VIEW POST #34 to see what I want to get through and share out.

UPDATE:

In the spirit of what I have been trying to do; community, personal choice, plant diversity, happiness, fun and free stuff, I would like to do some "ID's with a Differnce" if thats ok.

I plan to add a photo almost every day for a long time until every cacti or succulent I own has a new ID tag with a members username on the back of it. This is how it's going to work:

  • I will post a photo with a question mark and you can all argue about it and when the majority agree, - whoever got it right first will get a cutting, seedling, seeds, a pup (when it is ready) or whatever it takes to get a member something to grow from the correctly Identified item.
  • If you dont want it then whoever posts first after the photo (only if you really, really want it) gets a bit of it, as long as they dont have whatever it is already.
  • If seeds are not availalable, pups, graft or whatever is needed to get you something new, then I will write your member name, number and date ID that was made on the tag to remind me to send it when it is. Alternatly I can bring something to a meet to pass on.
  • If the item to be posted is small and light, I will cover postage. If it's not, you pay post or let the first '1st' poster have it.
  • If the plant goes unidentified that day then I will update the original post with, for example - mystery plant post 127, until it is correctly named to keep the ball rolling.

If you wonder 'why is he doing this?' - coz it's a nice thing to do and I like this group. I've regulary been directed here when ID ing stuff myself over the years and I thought i would give something back.

Jox and Stillman PM me for goodies.

Some items may have to remain within Australia, sorry to our overseas family.

pretty sure the second one is a Euphorbia flanaganii just not crested I think the whole caput medusa thing is a misclassification I see it on th eweb but pretty sure its still just a flanaganii (a synonym).

Thank you Stillman. That one confused me. I have been going through lots of sites and there Is lots of talk about that one. I keep reading that there are two types of these, one a dwarf with no flowers and one that grows larger and has small yellow flowers. A lot of the time I have been reading arguements that the dwarf is only a juvenile and not yet flowering or that the dwarf has been grown from a cutting of one of the arms and will not develope flowers.

dwarf is a juvenile they all flower from my experience In Australia you see E flanaganii i and some times E gorgonis which is more robust looking. All my flanaganii are in flower at the moment.

edit, I could be wrong but thats what I have been told by a few reputable sources.

I was doing a little more reading and E Caput Medusa is a true, but apparently extremely rare in Australia, It is the largest growing and clumps can reach nearly 2 metres across. I'd love to get one of those. I'm still certain yours is a E flanaganii, Most of the planst are grown from cutting and so it takes some time for the crown to get large, probably a full growing season.

I got that little Medusa off the old fellow I just purchased the nursery from. It is a Medusa and there is a bigger one in the greenhouse flowering now as well as 10-20 other little ones he had ready for the market. He also pointed to one and said that is a monstrose (? if thats how you spell it) one of them. Once the move is complete I will start posting some pics of what he said were extremely rare, very rare, rare, not many in Australia, I think these are the only ones in the country, thats over 100 years old and all those stories.

Anyone know a 80 year old Dutch colletor named John who's been collecting since he met his not then wife Helen at 13 after she introduced him to her dad who had also collected for most of his life? I've been buying of John at the markets for years and I'm very proud to take care of his babies.

U happy with a Postage for postage trade Jox?

Trades are more than welcome if I dont already have it.

I'd like to keep all details open except for real nitty gritty so everyone knows the deal in this game.

I would like for no one to sell what I have given - sharing the seed, progeny, cutting graft or whatever is the aim of this game, the more that get spread around the better for all and everything I say.

Anyone recognise anything else in that tray they want to put dibs on? I need new tags to go on their mothers with the old ones - some are that old the slightest touch breaks them.

Winner - TheExplorer

Pay postage choice of any 3

Jox & Stillman you got gifts last time so none this time. You can still name em though. If that is the case whoever posts 1st with correct name gets em.

if 1st does not appear in unedited post - 1st in un edited post with name gets em.

My game, my rules.

While I am at it lets set a fair postage price. You lot have been at it more and longer than me - post your thoughts.

If I post something I shouldnt It is unintentional - let me know ASAP. Many plants in my collection are not named and I have not been able to identify them myself.
