Trich Buds

Recommended Posts

A few of my Trichs have ether reached flowering age or I have managed to induce flowers. I have only ever had one Trich flower before and it was a big Pach ( 5 foot cutting ) that had flowered before we took the cutting. The first season that it was planted it put on a great show and then the next season ( last year ) no flowers at all.

During winter I moved all of my Trich's from one end of the property to the other. They now get a bit more sun but they used to get 6 hours + before I moved them. The only other changes that have been made was to cut some of the roots that had grown out of the bottom of the pots.

I have also recently changed to a lower nitrogen fertilizer but the buds had started forming before I started using it.

I thought I would use this thread to follow my Trich's from buds to flowers.

My big pach has already lost its buds due to someone throwing a rock over my fence and breaking of the top 30cm.

What a great set up!

You sure will have some impressive flowers soon.

I look forward to seeing pics, no signs of flower buds on my trichs, so i'll have to perve on yours when the time is right!

Ps: Maybe that rock that damaged your pedro needs to mysteriously fly back where it came from!

I like the set up between the rocks, looks great, can't wait to see the flowers develop.

That sucks about the rock over the fence, there's only one logical thing to do...

Nice garden man :) I've got a validus that is starting to bud up , would you be interested in trading some pollen?

Loving the big boulder setup there! I'd try turning the whole thing into more of a rock garden if it was me, fill in the empty spaces between the rocks with soil and put down some smaller cacti or succulents.

We all love the boulders!!

i bet they radiate nice warmth in the winter

some nice blue peruvians would contrast with the orange boulders nicely

how come you don't get em outta those pots and into the ground?

also love the one with the arms, it thinks it's a saguaro

I am surprised no one has mentioned that I should do some weeding

I will be building a whole garden bed with the big rocks as the main focus of the bed. The plants that are there now will be incorporated they just might not be in the exact same places as they are at the moment. All of the bigger Trich's were wedged up against the rocks to stop them falling over and it also gives us an idea as to how to lay the garden out. I have a lot more rocks and Trichs to go in there plus a growing succulent collection as well. There will be a lot of small holes and little nooks that i will also plant out with other cacti. There is a good sized hole in the middle that I would love to plant a biggish crest of some sort if I can find one. We also intend to plant some other plants in there as well as the barren cacti garden has never been my thing. I believe with the right selection of plants you can create a garden that can have a bit softer look than a desert landscape.

I am a bit pissed about the Pach having it top knocked off not just because of the fact it was going to flower but for the last 4 years I have purchased biggish tip cuttings to grow out as my (specium plants) with this garden in mind. I have also kept mid cuts of all of them to propagate from.

Pollen and seed trades will be defiantly happening if every thing goes to plan.

I still have to find somewhere to put a lot of these as they aren't going to all fit in the area set aside for the cacti bed. :scratchhead:

So jealous GoT ! How the hell did you get them all to flower ! what Fert's do you use and and what times of the year ? I had given up assuming Perth just wasnt the climate to get them happening.

The only flowers ive got were on logs that i had stacked up waiting for the next growing season, Oh and 1 on a p.c many years ago..

Oops, just read the start of the thread, maybe it was the cutting of the roots that stimulated them, hmmmm :scratchhead:

My big pach has already lost its buds due to someone throwing a rock over my fence and breaking of the top 30cm.

What a fucking asshole whoever did this man. Are you sure some cheeky bugger came across and stole 30 cm for a trip?

Anyway, I love your set up there brother. It's fucking amazing. I myself have recently potted 3 x t. bridgesii (achuma) and 5 x t. peruvianus (subspecies unknown, i think yowie).

Any tips on getting them as big as these mothers?

They range from about 10 cm to 30 cm in length.

Psychmaster It takes time as well as I believe in big pots if you cant get them in the ground. All of my trich's got plenty of water, fertilizer and seasole especially in the first few years. This year they aren't looking as happy as they aren't getting the water that they need but that will change once I get the retic back in. At the moment they are only getting hand watered a couple of times a week which isn't enough with the mix they are in.

I had heard rumors about you liking big rocks :P
