Is that pup shaded from light?

I guess this is one of the pups that was supposed to become a flower. Sometimes, cells get fucked up by insectdamage or other noxes and start pupping in weird shapes. Dont think this has anything to do with chimeras though. I see stuff like this every now and then.

Yeh ,the plant was flowering when the log cut was made last summer.

It was cut in line with an old flowering areole. Which may have made this mutation..

This seems consistent with the info in the link shruman posted. (btw cheers shruman!)

Well, it still looks badass eventhough i have a vague understanding of whats going on.

Thought about it and i guess this is whats happening: Flowering causes a very high concentration of hormones in the tissue. Now if the plant is pupping out of these spots, hormones mess with the growth and the result is a cactus that looks like Sylvester Stallone. Case solved.

btw "Artemis" , greek name and greek godess of hunting among others

while on the subject

here's another strange pup. this is the gymno X I have showed lots of times, it been grafted since it was a seedling on selini.

It looks something like an inbetween pup / bud

And yep, the cactus is budding right now...
