CβL Posted September 5, 2012 (edited) Hmmm... I was exploring around, and I found one of this plants, just chilling out in the garden of my uni. It looked very familiar, and it also reminded me of Erythroyxlon species... So I decided to taste the leaves. Well I bit into a leaf, and I found it surprisingly not bitter. I continued to chew it. There was a strange fruity taste in the leaves, which reminded me strongly of something (perhaps Erythroxylon or a minor component of Pseudowintera Colorata). So I continued to chew the leaves, as I found the taste really nice. After chewing a few leaves, I noticed that there was some kind of gum texture in my mouth. There was a very faint bitter taste in the leaves, but it was so faint I couldn't tell if it was alkaloi All up I chewed around 5-7 leaves, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. So I came to the computer to research what's in the leaves, and I didn't find anything. I found one website which mentioned the plant was toxic to rats... <_< http://www.cabdirect.org/abstracts/19440701828.html?freeview=true With regard to poisonous plants the following species have been supplied to the Animal Research Station, Wallaceville, where feeding tests are being conducted: pigeonwood (Hedycarea arborea), akakiore (Parsonsia spp.), tawa (Beilschmiedia tawa), mahoe (Melicytus ramiflorus), titoki (Alectryon excelsum), five-finger (Northopanax arboreum), monkey-musk (Mimulus guttatus), rangiora (Brachyglottis repanda), and kohuhu (Pittosporum tenuifolium). Pigeonwood and tawa proved definitely toxic to rats, while kohuhu and akakiore remain doubtful So if I die, you guys all know why lol. I'm not entirely sure it's accurate though, as rangiora is known to be quite toxic, but isn't even mentioned as being toxic here?
