Zen Peddler Posted June 11, 2012 A friend of mine moved to Horsham recently and emailed me these pics of an odd woodlover he found in some pot plants. Similar to a sub in some ways but different in others. Fibrils on the stipe stained blue:
myco Posted June 11, 2012 the colours a bit odd but its quite possibly just an old matured sub it looks like its the stage of begining to rot so thats possibly why it looks the way it does
Zen Peddler Posted June 11, 2012 I was thinking something similar but it had some strange characteristics.

Hyphal Posted June 11, 2012 I think it looks very interesting, I can see why it has caught your attention...
holymountain Posted June 11, 2012 yeah looks like an old sub to me. but don't trust my judgement! the twist of the stem is something i've seen subs do. most other mushroom stems are too brittle and weak to pull off twisting underneath and around bits of wood like subs can do. when they get older and are exposed to rain they go a mucky grey colour. it's really amazing the changes they go through from dark caramel brown caps when they are young to almost pale yellow if they get old and dried out...or blackish grey blue if they have been soaking in rain for a few too many days. Distracted Posted June 12, 2012 It could be but I wouldn't trust it with just the single sample to look at. Tell him to keep an eye out for the next flush.
