waterboy 2.0 Posted May 1, 2012 Just what you need as a processor ..... "A poppy processor in north-west Tasmania is counting the cost of a fire in a storage shed this morning. Fire crews were called to the GlaxoSmithKline storage facility at Latrobe at 7:30am. It took more than 20 firefighters to control the blaze in a 4,000 tonne poppy mulch pile. Company spokesman Rohan Kile says no-one was injured and the factory will remain open. The fire service's Paul Hill says the area was evacuated quickly. "Exactly the right thing occurred. The company noticed the smouldering in the shed and notified the brigade and they kept well and truly clear," he said. GlaxoSmithKline is investigating the blaze and is yet to determine the damage bill." http://au.news.yahoo.com/latest/a/-/latest/13563484/crews-battle-poppy-storage-blaze/

Polanish Posted May 1, 2012 "Breathe as much of the smoke as you can!" I don't like opiates, but what does this mean? It seems that the fire didn't really destroy anything? Except poppy mulch?
nabraxas Posted May 2, 2012 Not much active smoke in tasmanian poppies. not sure what you mean by that, certainly the smoke coming off poppie mulch, which i presume is just mulched up straw, wouldn't be very active.
waterboy 2.0 Posted May 2, 2012 (edited) The straw including pods is what is processed..... straw is limited however during harvesting If this was pre-processing you wouldn't want to be directly downwind. Outright straw less active, but it is active pre-processing. Burn 4,000 tonnes .... Not much active smoke in tasmanian poppies. I don't know where that comes from....The variety dictates the alkaloid profile Edited May 2, 2012 by waterboy
Shroomeup Posted May 3, 2012 Depends if the mulch was the Norman or Morphine variety. The Normans which contain primarily Thebaine and oripavine now make up more than 60% of Tazzy crops.
random Posted May 3, 2012 I'm thinking you don't mean this type of Norman.
waterboy 2.0 Posted May 3, 2012 you can thank GlaxoSmithKline for the food industry seed Not all processors can do this for reasons raised above
