Goldtop Posted April 10, 2012 I recall reading a while back, they were trying to introduce certain animals to start eating the toads as they were becoming too much of a pest. When i saw the sausages in the title i thought it was to give the animals a taste of the tender toads meat, guess thats not the case. Id prefer anything and everything to eat the bastards, i hate em. Cool strategy none the less
niggles Posted April 10, 2012 eating most kinds of supermarket quality meat tends to make me feel fairly ill. I wonder how sick cane toad sausages make one feel.

Stillman Posted April 10, 2012 I saw them do frog legs with them, theres quite a bit of meat on them, trick is to skin them quick and clean the poison being localised in the shoulder glands I believe. Probably taste like chicken but you won't catch me eating the disgusting things.

pete34 Posted June 21, 2012 wow niggles they could spread the baits by helicopter, especially before the toads reach a location and train many species not to eat cane toads it would work in other ways not just can toad, like train animals not to eat other animals/insects/plants
Jox Posted June 21, 2012 There are some native animals that can eat or have worked out how to safely eat cane toads. The beat way to save aussie wildlife, get rid of all the domestic pets (cats, dogs etc) & give everyone a pet quoll!! By the way I'd try eating one as well & there skin makes great leather (you would need a lot of them to make a nice leather recliner).

niggles Posted June 21, 2012 P.S. I would love a pet quoll, or wombat, or echidna. But they wont let me. Nor will they let me have a hedgehog. Im quite bitter about that.
Jox Posted June 21, 2012 I saw that post on the toad toxins/tadpoles, niggles, very interesting. Wombats are cool but fuck man they can bite hard. One of the first natives I got bit by when I was starting out working with wildlife. GIVE EVERYONE A NATIVE ANIMAL FOR A PET!!!
niggles Posted June 21, 2012 One of my rellies runs a native animal sanctuary in country victoria, as a kid I got to cuddle baby wombats and joeys and whatnot. Baby wombats are very puppylike and playful.. but yeah they sure can bite. Her door was reinforced with steel so the wombats couldnt dig through it. Good times!
