unknown 10-15yr old cactus

Question

been waiting for photos of theflowers to help with this id. there's a couple of shots of the adult and a couple of the cutting. tried to find this one myself but cactus id seems to get pretty convoluted. anyway, would greatly appreciate help with this one please. thanks.

We should have a "How to recognise a Cereus peruvanius" thread, or similar. The amount of times this one comes up in the ID threads is mind boggling. It would perhaps save some server space at the very least.

Maybe a please read this thread before posting columnar ID thread with some clear pics that illustrate well how this cactus looks.

Just a thought.

a few mosntrose/crested cereus in that thread would be handy also, ID requests for those come up often :)

This would be a sweet idea, but I think the problem is that when people post up an ID they don't even know if it's a cereus or anything, so they would most likely post an ID request anyway, this is just my opinion though and I could be way off the mark :)

But, maybe a little flash program where you get given a different lists of traits, and you select the traits that your cactus has and get given a list of possibilities? There's an iPhone app called 'fungi' that is pretty much what I just mentioned, but it's for mushies.

Would be pretty easy to make, just a little time consuming and having to gather pictures etc.

Haha I'd be more then happy to help in my spare time, havnt looked at action script for years but flash programming is like riding a bike :) also my ID and cacti knowledge is very under par :(

It would take ages to make if you wanted every sp of cacti, but could do it staggered, updating it with common ID requests etc.

And having all the pics from SAB members, make it a SAB cactus IDing app, having the logo in the app etc, then embedding it in a pinned thread in the ID subforum

maybe we should start another thread seeing who would be keen to help out?

I think this specimen is Cereus hexagonus, I've seen it tagged at The Botanic Gardens.
