Catha edulis

Question

Hey all,

This could well be my first message, I really wouldn't know, I've been roaming here for so long soaking up information. drool2.gif

I'm having trouble identifying my khat plant, so I'm hoping one of you would lent me their knowledge, and help me identify it...

And for those really curious about the two little khat plants in the first picture, I've added a sharper photo of them as well. newimprovedwinkonclear.gif

I've got those two from planthelper and should be vienna white. biggrin.gif

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't understand what you are asking?

You want an ID but then you already know that they are vienna white?

Nah the little ones are Viennas from PH and are known. Pcster wants an ID on the larger one.

....but I dunno what it is sorry.

Congrats on your first post Pcster! :) I also have no idea, they definitely dont look like narrow leaves, or red's. I think planthelper will be able to identify them for you mate.

BTW - I like your grow room! Is that a hydroponic setup? I can see the bright light reflecting off the khat leaves. Aswell as the reflective foil you have on the walls. Very nice indeed mate, if I had the room I would build myself a nice hydroponic grow room like that, or I'd create a nice grow space for my edible mushies. hmm might see if I can do some shifting around today and make myself a nice little space for something. You've inspired me mate! haha

the small one's are seedling catha edulis, most likely ph f2, if you got the seeds from me.

Was the larger one seed grown or a cutting. I am not 100% sure and I haven't opened it yet but if there is no caramelisation in the fresh growth Ior no red stems I would say maybe narrow leaf as the leaves aren't anywhere near as rounded as my green

It's like Bongchitis said I would like to know the id from the big khat plant. The plant is propagated by seed, I got it from a friend in Hungary as a seedling + some seeds, but they never germinated :'(

Planthelper you sold some khat seed to a friend of mine in the Netherlands a while back, narrow leaf, vienna white and a lot of planthelper strain seeds ^^ because you said you didn't have any red strain seeds at the moment, he gave a few to me but only 2 vienna white germinated. It's probably my own fault that only so few germinated, I think it's because it was to cold. The temperatures ranged between 15-20°C I think it would've been better if the temperatures ranged between 20-25°C.

@ Darkspace: Could you explain to me to me what this so called "caramelisation" looks like, maybe a picture ?

And the leaves on my plant don't really strike me as narrow but it's not all that clear in the photo so I'll a another one.

And @ naja naja, that was my first thought as well, as there is no hint of red whatsoever. newimprovedwinkonclear.gif

Here are some pictures for extra clarification, as you can see I'm trying to make a cutting because he/she kept falling over. :( Probably spoiled it to much ^^ but I'm having a fan on my little ones now, so that won't happen again. devil.gif

And @ LikeAshesWeFade, thanks for the compliment. That's indeed an hydroponic setup in my growroom, wel actually it's my bedroom but hey, who needs a bed room any way, right ^^

I've put my bed in the living room, super easy now I can watch any TV shows or anime in bed. cool.gif & I'm glad to hear I could inspire you mate :D Good luck with the remodelling !

That first shot is definitely green, maybe I should have opened the pics first. I swear they didn't look that broad from the side on shot lol

here a pic of red caramelisation, we are talking about the "glazed tip leaves".

post-70-0-06506000-1321312778_thumb.jpg

the green types, get that aswell, but often not as spectacular as the red's.

the green caramel leaves, look rather creamy in color.

here a pic of a narrow leaved caramel tip.
