mutant Posted November 28, 2013 (edited) transplanted a newcomer, echinopsis monster. things are going cold here. I hope I will make it in time to cover my greenhouse before I got serious losses. Thankfully it's not supposed to be raining for some days now... PS: If i Get the GH going, I will have most of them plants going again, also I will be able to root in the GH. Myrti Breast plants dont root at these temps outside now, maybe I should take 'em inside to root? Edited November 28, 2013 by mutant
hostilis Posted November 30, 2013 I root my cacti inside usually near a window in indirect light. Today i grafted some ariocarpus seedlings to pereskiopsis. It was a mixed astrophytum pack from koehres. Did 3 on each pere with vertical grafts.

mutant Posted December 1, 2013 (edited) upside>> 2x stenocereus pruinosus and I think the echinopsis is echinopsis subdenudata love your long penis slice >> perlite rules!! ***** well I took some lopho grafts off the roof (was afraid they've stayed too long there and a storm is coming and rains) as well as the supposed S.thurberii variegata and brought them to sheltered spot to stay a bit unwatered till the soil dries. As the stocks are trichocerei, I will probably bring up again in a couple weeks. also watered some of the newcomer crests/monsters which are carefully monitored in the sheltered spot as well as the new grafts (incl. areole grafts of coryphantha, still not pupped, but I have high hopes) I also took some nostalgia photos: April 2008. These are the first 4 cacti I bought, not long after I received my kk339 freebie. I still got the Echinopsis subdenudata, but this particular gymno has died some time now December 2013 These are the Astrophytum myriostigma and Mammilaria hahniana seen in the first pic. The 'art' on the astro pot is mine Edited December 1, 2013 by mutant

vegetarium Posted December 4, 2013 Nothing special today, just a bit of watering. Does anybody ever wish that they could peer into their cactuses and see whats happening at the molecular level? I'd love to see my little cacti ripping apart those water molecules and using the hydrogen to build more of itself. Sometimes I wonder if there are any oxygen atoms that have ever done the full trip, going between me and the cacti or between the two cacti. I give it water, it splits the water and tosses out oxygen, I use the oxygen and turn it into carbon dioxide and then it takes the carbon dioxide and turns it into a sugar. Then I suppose if I was to slip, like in a puddle or something with a knife in my hand and accidentally cut the cactus and the cactus accidentally fell into my mouth and I accidentally swallowed it, then that oxygen would become part of me again!
mutant Posted December 4, 2013 well have you looked at tissues with a microscope?? I admit I have done this pretty few times but it rules, it might not show what you're saying, but its pretty impressive, always! one time I put a cactus spine to watch. You know spines got 'hooks' with reverse positioning to make it easier for the spine to stay in the flesh, detaching from the cactus, but you got to go over x50 to see this. hostilis Posted December 7, 2013 Well a friend sent them, but he got them from SS. I tried ordering some from WSS and never got them after a month. Finally started a paypal case and they send the package and it was bridgesii seeds. Asked for the validus that i ordered and i was told I had to return the bridgesii seed (and pay for postage) for a refund. It's been a hastle but I finally got them. I am hoping koehres gets them sometime soon. They're always so reliable.
mushroomman Posted December 7, 2013 Yeah I have a few from wss but I think I herd somewhere that they are selling a small clumping trich as validus I have a few seedlings of SS validus?NL52509a Going will post some pics when I get a chance. I'm waiting on some of these validus seeds from SS Trichocereus validus Tree like cactus. Dark green stems up to 8" or more in diameter with 810 ribs. Large felty areoles with 710 radial spines and 12 central spines up to 3" long. White nocturnal flowers. Southern Bolivia. An impressive plant, slow growing and rare in cultivation. My yowie cutting is aparently now variegated lol Here's a few seed grown plants peope might be interested in. Los banos x pallarensis Lumberjack x Juules. Psycho0 x N1 Mesa Garden 'pachanoi' bit of a slow grower... SS Wild sourced peruvianus And finally rosei#1 & 2 crossed with fields pach. origonally from interbeing but given to me by CBL. hostilis Posted December 7, 2013 Beautiful plants Nemistry! @ Mushroomman: They've been acting sketchy lately dude. I would avoid them. Do you have any T. taquimbalensis? If not you should definitely get some. For some reason they're really intriguing me lately. I just had a graft take of one of my seedlings. Can't wait to see it when it's larger.
mutant Posted December 7, 2013 mushroomman >> I was under the impression validus would not make so long spines, but it was only an impression hostilis>> taquimbalensis is one of the faster growing. werdermannanius I still dont think its quite clear that its a real species... check out this thread. if you dont know it already, you're gonna love it http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19673&hl=trichocereus

mushroomman Posted December 7, 2013 Would you say these seeds are correctly labeled? Trichocereus validus Tree like cactus. Dark green stems up to 8" or more in diameter with 810 ribs. Large felty areoles with 710 radial spines and 12 central spines up to 3" long. White nocturnal flowers. Southern Bolivia. hostilis Posted December 8, 2013 That thread is great. I have checked it out before, but thanks or linking it to me again. I think it will help me correctly ID my fatty trichs when they get older. Although I highly trust koehres_kaktus to correctly label the seeds.
