What did you do to your cacti today?

Recommended Posts

Been working OK for me, got to wash it tho... the hort grade sources I've seen look a bit prettier. I haven't used it for large plants yet tho only seedlings and the small plants. last time I got some it was $17 for 15 kg

Is that a new humidity chamber? How do you like that mister, especially when the water level in the jug gets lower?

Ha thanks guys!

Karl thats not a mister. Its just a milk bottle with a fish tank heater in it. The raised water temp helps keep the humidity up and more importantly the grafts warm.

I use this over winter.

Noticed my stock (pereskiopsis) which I acquired last week has grown roots. So thought id graft some Lw to them, its my first time grafting so I hope it goes alright. I used the cling wrap with a peg tek and the plants are in a tub to stay moist, located outside in the shade. They will be wrapped up for a week as I go away for work. do you think I need to remove the cling wrap sooner?

Also rearranged seedlings and plants and realized I need a shelf for my seedlings. So I went and picked up some pallets and started pulling them apart. See how I go, I have not built anything from timber since I made a step ladder in high school.

Hey fnqmane, are they small seedlings? You don't need anything to help the babies stick, the pere juice does it for you,.. Have you seen watertrade's pere grafting video? Definitely worth watching if you're new to it...

not sure what others think, but I wouldn't leave them wrapped with plastic for a week, sounds like a mould/rot paradise...just leave them in full shade for a week if you're away...

edit:

the thread is here, check the 2nd vid lower in the thread...

Hey fnqmane

Mate Mountain Goat is on to it^^.

I think everyone has there own rituals that they form after stuffing it up a few times. The most important thing is that you give it a crack. Trust me you learn more from it not working.

I agree with Mg i personally think your going to have more grief than gain with the glad wrap on small seedlings.

The surface tension from the pere sap holds them in place.

I also think the install & removal of the gladwrap is a pretty hazardous affair.

But you should try everything to see what works for you.

Personally I leave mine in the shed in a plastic storage container in almost complete darkness. In winter i even put a blanket under and over the container to keep it warm.... So complete darkness.

The container also help you control the moisture and fresh air exchanges.

I keep mine like this for 2 weeks and then go straight into a light box.

I spray the entire insides with a fine mist before putting the grafts in and then water the pot the pere is in after a few days.

I do find that if a water droplet lands on the seedling union the chance of rot goes through the roof.

Good luck with it mate!

Thanks dood! I can't wait for the flower either, but flowers aside it is a real beauty. Did you graft the 2015 or 2016 cross? I have just grafted the latest cross and will be interested to see the outcome and compare the two.

Between 1-2ft each. It originally came from watertrade , who said it came from SAB nursery. Man it grows super fast, one top cut last time yielded 8 of these fat ass pups.Me and my mates names it OSP (old school pedro). Maybe I'll let one flower and ask for pollen.

its made @Change hypothesis the plant was well and truely gonna flower anyways and had its mind made up months before the cuts were even taken (the mum has flowers all over it). I sorta agree, what do you all think of this?
