☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Posted June 8, 2014 (edited) Yep grandparents be pretty cool. I doubt I would be growing anything if it were not for my grandmother. I swear she.could put a stick in the.ground and it will grow. I'll try out the egg shells if I get a bad slug problem again. Never heard of it but sounds lile it will be fun trying it out. Omelettes in the morning and slug repelent afterwards haha. Not sure if this has been addressed yet but trichocereus poco is now echinopsis.tarijensis. it grows to be around 20ft and looks fucking aweaome. I love the spination on it. I have no doubt interbeings trichs will put on an amazing display when the columns pack themselves with.flowers. I wish my family was more receptive to letting me plant cacti in their yards. i gave up on outdoor egg shells after the rain splashed so much mud on em it buried em ... good for the soil i guess amg!... i wonder if theyre good for cacti soil? anyhoo , eggshells in the greenhouse (with a broken bottom glass-slat in the vent window which let the slugs in) was very fkn successful story tho Edited June 8, 2014 by ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ

☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Posted June 9, 2014 (edited) hylo costaricensis and undatus ( closer/heavier spination on undatus , red parts on costaricensis) fat ole whopping great terscheckii arrived just as I thought it would now im not blinded by invalidus goggles, I can definitely say this one really is immaculate this time that a terscheckii arrived .... and it be the truth definitely have packaging down to a science , different style to French n German cacti purchases packaging... but I like it.. settling into new home this terscheckii was not bought just because I wanted one, but to test the seller since the only other cactus dude in italy I know already ripped me off and quoted me a 60cm terscheckii then said it was only 40cm but lol kept the same price ,,, however, this new Italian seller is clearly a Good one ... thank goodness they're not all con men !!!... and on the subject of which.... I got tempted by a tiny 3pack cactus set on ebay spain, with a little macro..seemed a good lead ..... till i saw the shipping price seems like the ancient rip em off on the delivery price tactics from uk has infiltrated the EU at the first step i still cant believe that their shipping is MORE than was for the fat terscheck , and theyre about 2 countries closer at least theres some awesome ones from there still found an old haworthia I had forgot I'd had for a few years potted up the scop stump in 1 of the pots that arrived today ... figured in a round about way whilst taking night shots... the same that was obvious from the beginning... and is in everything else theres good ones n bad ones everywhere, but dont those bad ones make the good ones look like shining gold night shot1 2 3 ... tried my damnedest not to fall in love with soehrensia re-added the mitey caespitosa after a while in quarantine found this straggler outside with a slug half way up the pot side Edited June 10, 2014 by ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ
hostilis Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) I got some new echinopsis that i ordered off ebay today. Coincidentally I also got a couple awesome gifts from a generous member here. He sent them without telling me before hand which was a pretty awesome surprise. They happened to be echinopsis as well. Hehe. Here are the plants I was gifted. Big echinopsis and then a small variegated echinopsis pup Edit: These are the ones I bought. BillyThKid Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) A friend of mine finally sent me some grafting stock to get my aztekium ritteri grafted onto new stock. The old root stock was on its last leg. I had some of the root stock already but i needed to move pups to be able to cut the main head right. ONe of the pups grafted onto a myrtillocactus geometrizans. nice little twin In this one it is the underside of that pup, you can see almost a number 8 looking water core on it. i think the upper lobe is for the one pup and the larger lower lobe is for the other one. With that in mind i layed the scion on the root stock so that both areas of vascular tissue met with the ring of the root stock. I hopt they take at both points, if not i hope that at least one takes and feeds them both This is the aztekium head upside down showing where i cut off the old root stock and then spent an hour shaving it down without hurting the aztekium. The old root wstock had warped and twisted and hardened and just been a pain to remove. This is the last picture of it whole. I basically cut the aztekium head in half and this is what i saw. the bright color is always stunning and i see it in every aztekium ritteri i have seen cut open thus far. i love all the vascular tissue steming from the water core to the skin for the pups. There were over 36 smaller pups on the main head so it was impossible not to cut though some like this. 5 grafts in total. 3 large pups, the main head and the base which had the old root stock attacked to it which i grafted upside down to make a pup factory. BillyThKid Posted June 11, 2014 nice one Billy , never seen such in detail graft pics before,,, ceres... good luck with the bugs I took at least 10 other pictures i would upload but i figured this was enough. I left the ritteri on the root stock for this long in hopes of a flowering but i aw none so this year is graft and recovery year. Does anyone have experience with upside down grafts? I only know of one person personally who had one and it pups like a monster/
hostilis Posted June 11, 2014 What I know is to just cut off most of the roots and graft. Basically like any other. Make sure there's areoles on it and intersect the vascular cambiums.
BillyThKid Posted June 12, 2014 The way i have the main heads set up because they had so much vascular tissue i think i have at least 3 points of contact on the ,main heads to the root stocks. With the main heads having such large vascular tissue you would think it would be impossible to not have it fuse. Today i did more garden stuff. im gathering recycled plastic containers of my families trast to be used for seedling trays for the remaining 200 or so seeds i need to plant of my trichocereus hybrids. I may also be getting other seeds soon from a friend so i need these other containers. Might be getting an IR light heat mat for extra root development and higher germination rates.

hostilis Posted June 14, 2014 (edited) I got a bunch of new plants in about a week ago. I washed all the roots off, trimmed the roots way down, let them dry out for about a week, now I'm letting them chill in this bowl of dry washed sand. I'm waiting for some decomposed granite to come in so I can make them a nice mixture of that and pumice (plus some other stuff) Edited June 14, 2014 by hostilis

Plants closest are knuthianus, then cuzcoensis complex clones, SS02 clones, way down on the end are mainly hybrids.Edit: the plant on the left closest is what most refer to as a short spines peruvianus.
