☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Posted March 17, 2014 (edited) checked the home build propogator found some random mycology checked germinatia and 1 pelecyphora aselliformis sprouted, also my first ever varigated seedling: a white macrogonus!!! colossus arrived this morning too but that wasn't all, my wishes to the cactus fairy paid off big time , and the spells cast for it to arrive safely :3 also arriving at the very same time ... beautiful validus seeds.. . so i fkn sowed 2 pots of 10 each along with a pot of 10 BBBbridgesiiXvalidus that also arrived at exactly the same time and I moved the acacia confusa out of the home build propogator to make room for the colossus So I snapped some pics and some pics of my italian terscheckii while i fantasised over it really being a validus and the valle fertil san huan terscheckii - the crap on it is DE from ages ago when I thought it worked against spidermite the first time I encountered them after getting horny over the tips, I started to eye up all the other sexy tips juuls scop colossus and the rootate I got my invoice from the cool german scopulicolus shop and again , a pleasure to deal with , I wish uk shops were this cool as standard like it's rapidly becoming apparent that the nurseries in germany are possibly; all lovely to do business with ! and they actually get back to you even if your'e not a sale and it's just to say no sorry we dont have these seeds, usually within a day and rarely longer... So the kids should soon have one scop each to add to their windowsill collections of hylocereus costaricensis+undatus, pachanoi, and succulents and that will leave me with 4 to play with flowering eventually I sprayed the cacti with rain mist so as to keep any straggler spider mites upset and set back while I wait for this mighty wash to come and opened the windows because it was hitting 35C before midday, and shut down all the heated propogators and covered the rainforest box one and the latest cacti seed pot propogator with the mimosa ophthalmocentra in with old baby blankets so the sun wouldnt scorch anything in there and opened up the vents at some point before all of this I potted up the colossus in perlite as the main priority. I trimmd the shite leaves from my mum's aloe and watered it with double strength feed... took down all the bubble wrap from the windows .... and sat back and had a cuppa and a toakl and took this pic and went and bought a book because I don't have any cacti books Edited February 20, 2017 by ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ
☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Posted March 18, 2014 (edited) ok today I got 3 boxes of lovely cacti , 1 from uhlig kakteen ,1 from kuentz these both are scientists when it comes to packaging too !! 3rd was a pach from another German seller, expertly wrapped too a fat T' tacaquirensis subsp taquimbalensis from Kuentz a group plantation of terscheckii which I thought was gna be one fat cactus but looks so good I'm keeping them anyway - from uhlig another small terscheckii from Kuentz too in with the taquimbalensis box the German pachanoi pupping branch from cut root stock, fkn gorgeous checked the shortstuff crew for fruiting flowering progress fricci pele/turbi pseudopectinata the indoor opuntias burst into life from all the 42C+ peaks when its sunny lately potted up a pineapple top that had root buds, put it in with the validus and the BBBXvalidus and some ophthalmo seedlings .. so yeah my son's loph will made 2 fruits that have wilted in the time their fricci has been working at making one so it will give him chance to get the joyful feeling of germinating seed that grew from his own plants ; which we all here know and love took a photo of the new ones together also 4 litres of mighty wash came with the cacti delivery so I drenched the fk outta everything in the sunroom to replace all of the morning and evening light mistings of rain for this week, and as an early precaution, sprayed every surface in greenhouse A with it too... Also I learned in retrospect: that if ever you feel bad, just buy a cactus, it heals you immensely from the moment you receive confirmation of purchase Edited March 22, 2014 by ☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ

☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Posted March 19, 2014 (edited) Today I kept the heated propogators on till 15:00 because it was only 20C maximum till then, after which it hit 42C by 16:30 so I got the jugs, feed and nematodes out and watered the cacti from a mix of 20ml of maxicrop cactus fertz to a 4litres of rain with a snooker chalk sized cube of all round nematode fluff: drawn and squirted back in the jug to mix everything thorougly a few sciariad fly made it in through the windows that I managed to flame throw down.., probably from the compost bin, hence the all out: all round nematode war. last year I lost 4 ophthalmocentra to these little bstrd's offspring.... and I've only just had the confidence to sow another 4, being prepared for them this time, Dx! Also I sowed 500 Trichocereus "mischung" in a half sized standard seed tray I got the seeds on ebay from germany 1000 cactus seeds of the genus Trichocereus it says there are these species in it: andalgalensis, angelesii, boliviensis, bridgesii, cajasensis, callianthus, camarguensis, candicans, chilensis, pachanoi, pasacana, peruvianus, schickendanzii,spachianus,thelegonus,validus,u.s.w...? I can't wait to have a pure shicken And I covered the propogators with shading because they're facing south westerly and that's peak sun for any time of year here but especially from now until october usually and finally we have blue skys and heat again this is a pic from last march's freak bstrd snows Thank fk it's not doing that this year again I won a (what looks to me like a mammilaria bocasana cv' fred I once saw) Trichocereus spec' dinosaurus which was a giggle... , should be on it's way. heres a pic from the listing Also got mail to say my scopulicolus had been dispatched, so I told the kid's they'd have a scop each which got them excited : ] And a crazy quote for EU29.99 to ship 3 measly cactlets/spindlings from germany when I've been shipping far larger and heavier at the fairer, standard international shipping rates for ages now... so I wrote back to them in german telling them the score on shipping and links to everyone else's reasonable shipping and they will gather that's my way of telling them good luck an ttfn Another German seller I won a huge macro from only accepts bank transfers but has an awesome feedback score so I'm gna ring the bank and try it thru em. -edit- yay the bank sent it so just awaiting confirmation of receipt and despatch -edit- received and will dispatch monday woot! heres a pic of it from the listing ,,the Graham Charles book I ordered arrived it looks lovely but.., the echinopsis list is pathetic ..., if my kids don't find anything in the book they like, it's going back as no good to me ........luckily they fkn adore it and it does certainly have some cool things in that I can verify against to see if I already know them, but i crave a trichocereus book so badly I might start compiling data and write one at this rate.. Can anyone recommend a decent Trichocereus book to me?, and I'm that desperate, I'll even learn a new fahkin language if necc (shakes head in even more uk-based trichocereal disappointment) , at least that champion; cactus shop uk, has some notes I can buy -later edit- which turned out to be crap, cost a fiver and then went down to a few quid after I bought one .. and i could do with some more cactus feed... now the collection pushed over 100 and since learning to feed with every watering while they're not dormant.., it's getting used, AND they're finally looking as healthy as when I bought them - woot! , maybe the removal of a lot of lime helped also , (someone told me cacti like a high ph) I'm seeking more, an extensive horticultural viewed Trichocereus book though, ... Does trout's notes have horticultural knowledge? or is it just alkaloidal?, £50 plus $20 usa to uk shipping is far too expensive to pay just to check and I dont particularly desire or need alkaloidal info, though it is somewhat interesting.... ..what is more interesting to me though; is the plant family of trichocereus from a botanical/horticultural -and as complete as possible a tricho' species list- perspective... it would be worth hunting it cheaper/second hand if possible though; If it had enough botanical info, horticultural info and species pics/location info; especially if it also delves into less common tricho' species and hybrids etc.. then a more thorough plan for breeding every single Tricho' species that nobody is growing en masse; can begin.. ...and I heard of this cool book called the new cactus lexicon... Where can I find anyone who hasn't sold out of the latest new cactus lexicon? - not the images only edition,... I'm told it's supposed to be £30 max but I don't think any of the book shops who have sold out realise this by their pricing of £150-200 maybe I can ask the library if they have a copy I could reserve a few months with. Also, does the new cactus lexicon have like one book for info and another for images, thus requiring both? like the view from barro colorado island book set (for virola lovers) Can't wait to see all your guys pics and read about ya cactaceal adventures in trichocerea Also I found by chance a uk shop selling BBBXvalidus !!! nice to know there's more uk-tricho-friendly cacti folk about to bring some competition in and hopefully drop the prices of the uk crazies taking advantage of us when we're noobs in the days before we discover cacti nurseries are, (with the exception of the one in Lancashire); the right way- for doing it for all the right reasons. djmattz0r Posted March 19, 2014 Went to a local ethnobotanical garden and spent a couple hours looking around. I had originally scored my first cactus here a year or so ago. Apparently their San Pedros were sourced from Trout, not sure if that means they aren't PC. Got a sweet deal on a bridgesii from their mother plant which seemed to have semi monstrose tendencies and a few clone B TBMs. The guy I was talking to was super nice and pretty knowledgeable, very happy to talk to me about cacti and seemed impressed with my ability to identify different species... he even topped the only peruvian torch in the place that had a big "NOT FOR SALE" sign on it and gave it to me with my cacti along with a carrion plant cutting. He wanted to get some trades going to diversify their collection a bit. Can't wait to get some new genetics to this place Here's a couple pics I snapped while there: Here's the bridgesii I picked up Also some sweet cacti shorts I picked up online!
Schrodinger's Khat Posted March 19, 2014 I found some rot on one of my TBMs so I hacked away and calloused all the little doodles with some sulpher. I planted them thismorning, looks cool having 17 individual TBMs

kapitän kamasutra Posted March 19, 2014 (edited) Hey thunder! Are you sure the the German pachanoi isn't a Peruvianus? Great looking plant either way! I think thats the same pachanoi clone I have, and have seen in cultivation in several places locally. It has always short spines at the tip and do only grow few longer spines near the base on very old plants. DiscoStu Posted March 19, 2014 can anyone recommend treatment for scale on juvenile (2+ yr) seedlings? i'm not afraid of a nuclear option
hostilis Posted March 20, 2014 I'm treating scale right now with imidacloprid, but I haven't seen the results yet. I treated many young seedlings with it and they're all still growing strong. It can take a couple months though supposedly for it to move to all parts of the plant. Then any buggers trying to eat them will die.

☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Posted March 20, 2014 (edited) Today I accidentally bought a Trout's san pedro book from moksha without realising their price only included usa shipping and wrote to them to ask for either a cancellation or an invoice for the extra for uk shipping if they will... -edit- bless their cotton socks they certainly did refund me and were very polite- after getting a peek inside one , this is definitely a must have book beyond shadow of all doubt so lol I bought another from mapsmdma on ebay , :D and if I end up with two, I will just have a spare I guess :] it's the first chance I've had to give back to maps for their priceless info I found through cluster busters site so what an awesome find. Postman pat came with a dothefunkysaurus Also 2 tiny uk cacti arrived, a spachianus and a Tricho' sp. C083 Pan-am KM325 And a super selection of named cacti from a cool polish nursery that kindly included as many trichos as poss after requesting in polish The potted one was claimed early by my 4-yr old :] I later potted them all up into 2" nursery pots.. I opened the windows in the cactus lounge so they all should get plenty of air after yesterday's waterings and its been a rainy day and perfectly windy I also got some seeds handed over by postman pat with the cacti, - T' terscheckii MN0531 E.Palos Blancos 909 Tarija Bolivia - the spineless terscheckii I mentioned before so I'm just waiting for 2x 2"pots to cool down after nuking and they will be sown and labelled up n stuffs soon I think I'm gna ask that polish nursery for an Astrophytum mix this time cuz my daughter started to take a shine to them :] I checked an Opuntia ficus indica pad "twist off" for roots but nuthn yet. started to worry about the Pereskiopsis getting yellow lower leaves and dropping them but maybe it's just an adjustment to the environment like Chinese elm bonsai, they always replace their leaves every time ya move them for some reason , they look healthy otherwise. Also I ordered 50x 9cm and 50x 10cm square nursery pots from germany to replace the missing BEF pots I ordered. Here's a pic from later -with the lights on- of the tidying I did first the whipper snapper's cacti and then the tank cacti and some of the cacti smiling is it just me or does anybody else see the eyes nose and smile all over certain cacti?
