cactuscarl Posted June 28, 2012 (edited) I think Im out of this comp :-( my graft was getting a rusting colour on it and wasn't looking real good so i put it outside to get some sun. It rained for two days and my graft swelled and split let this be a lesson to all to much water even for 2 or 3 days can kill your graft so be careful :-) i think i can save this one but it'll be a long time before it flowers now. Its not the best pic but if you look closely you can see the split it's about one third of the graft Edited June 28, 2012 by cactuscarl
GoOnThen Posted June 29, 2012 Sorry to hear that mate. She isn't looking to good I would ether spray it with a fungicide or dust it with sulphur. I would actually dust the split with sulphur any way. I hope it turns out alright. Cheers Got
gilligan Posted June 29, 2012 Mwahahaha, one less competitor to deal with! Seriously though, wonder if she comes good, and flowers quickly inthe hope of reproduction cos she thinks she's dying and needs to put out the next generation, like belting fruit tree trunks? GoOnThen Posted July 1, 2012 Still no sign of flowers as yet Cheers Got
Rabelais Posted July 2, 2012 Nice, GOT. Can I ask what kind of soil mixes you use?
GoOnThen Posted July 2, 2012 Nice fluff, got. :-) I don't mind a bit of fluff but I would be happier if the loph's were getting more so the little bastards would flower already Can I ask what kind of soil mixes you use I had to look up your profile the other day. I couldn't work out who you were. I was thinking I should know you 400 posts been here since 09 looking at your name Rabelais who the fuck is Rabelais The soil is mainly straight potting mix for the pere but I am starting to go to more of a coir base now to try and reduce my bug problems. Some are also in my mix i use for my trichs. I really just use what I have or make it up so it looks alright. If you are wondering about the sand it is just on the top in some of the pots It was an attempt to try and stop a gnat issue that I thought was having but it turned out to be another little pest that I still haven't identified Cheers Got
cactuscarl Posted July 2, 2012 Nice one GOT you sure got the hang of that quick some of those are monsters I think ill save mine all the splits seemed to heal up pretty good the only thing Im worried about is the colour it was getting that rusting on it originally that's why i put it outside. Does anyone know what would cause that?
2Deep2Handle Posted July 3, 2012 are all those lophs grafted at end of 2011? or are some older.....cause those pupping ones are off the chain if they are less than a year old
GoOnThen Posted July 3, 2012 Nice one GOT you sure got the hang of that quick some of those are monsters I think ill save mine all the splits seemed to heal up pretty good the only thing Im worried about is the colour it was getting that rusting on it originally that's why i put it outside. Does anyone know what would cause that? My first Loph grafts are some of the best that I have done and the biggest is about 45mm it was constantly growing until it pupped which slowed it up a bit. I did fall in a hole a few months ago with a lot of fails and the ones that survived are not doing so well. I think the quality of my pere stock wasn't to great and I became to confident so I have gone back to basics and only grafting onto healthy growing stock. I am pretty sure the orange on yours is fungal. I have an older graft that had a few spots show up which I was a bit concerned about but it is still going strong. A lot of my grafts go orange were the get damaged ( normally munched on ) so I treat them with sulphur just to be safe. What you don't want is it to be the dreaded orange rot that rots the core of the plant. There is a pic of zelly's around somewhere of a loph cut open and it is full of orange rot not a pretty sight. are all those lophs grafted at end of 2011? or are some older.....cause those pupping ones are off the chain if they are less than a year old The only graft in my photos that isn't from seed sown for the comp is the one in the blue pot and the first grafts done towards the end of November 2011 Cheers Got
Stillman Posted July 3, 2012 pumping man, I think the secret is in the stock. Peres is easy but getting it a lush green is the trick.

Ethos Posted August 26, 2012 It isn't november yet, And no one has had a graft flower yet. If i remember correctly the winner is to be the first person to have a graft flower from a plant sown and grafted after november 2011. I'm sure once spring comes around people will start showing off
