Bridgeman Posted October 12, 2011 Can anyone direct me to some info for instructions on how to grow psychotria alba and caapi hydroponically and what are the pros and cons i.e. do they grow faster?
planthelper Posted October 12, 2011 why do you wanna grow alba? indoor grow space is precious, so why would you grow a weaker strain than viridis? if it's, because you simply have already got an alba, than in this case i would upgrade to viridis. caapi plants need a lot of space, so i guess they are not ideal for indoors. i don't think many people have ever grown caapi hydroponicly, but i'm sure she would love it, because caapi plants are very virgorous growers! i don't know much about hydroponic systems, but psychotrias would love them aswell, i'm sure. caapi and viridis, both would be very happy, with just moderate light levels.
Alice Posted October 13, 2011 Hydroponics doesn't have to be indoors. And you can grow anything hydroponically, even cacti will be very happy with an appropriately designed flood and drain system. Still, unless you are growing cannabis, I can't really see how it's worth the hassle and expense. and what are the pros and cons i.e. do they grow faster? I would suggest that you just buy or borrow a general book on hydroponics to learn the basics. Read it all and you'll be an expect in a few days. Designing a hydroponics system is easy to do well if you have a plan in your head of exactly what you want to achieve. And I say book rather than website as it's less distracting.
Moses Posted October 14, 2011 as p.h said you gonna need room to grow caapi so it's outside only but you could still use hydro principles to grow it as Alice said. set up a simple recirculating system using solar fountain pump so when the suns up your plant is getting watered when the sun sleeps so does your plant. Bridgeman Posted October 22, 2011 thanks very much for the replies . I'm mainly considering growing the psychotria alba hydroponically inside as i have heard they have slow growth unlike the caapi and i thought they would benefit and grow faster in a more controlled environment. I'm also going to purchase and upgrade to a Psychotria viridis "Luna" Plant now as at the time there was none in stock and thats why i chose the alba as have heard they grow faster but with only 60% strength in comparison. danshaman Posted October 26, 2011 i would go for aquaponics maybe a lil more tricky but its a constant cycling system with nutrients then you can just sit back and watch em grow
