santiago Posted September 27, 2011 what about the theory of absolute starvation, taking cacti cruelty out of the equation would it not be best to train your cactus first by releasing it from its potting prison and into its natural home in the ground first where possible, then taking the genes that got the plant to where it was in the first place by placing the plant under strain via enviromental factors, the natural forces of life which strain the plant to breaking point thus releasing its own inner powers of survival, then looking at cactus in an urban enviroment transpalnted back to its desert or mistreaten youth, the horse or wild type animal with infrequent rains being its own food, this is the inherant survival and growth characteristic of what is essentially a primitive and unchanged life force. basically i dont believe there is any right way to fertilise a cacti, i would go the other side of the coin and plant it firstly in the gound in the absolute poorest soil and give it a once yearly feed of horse manure.
