Marcel Posted August 31, 2011 (edited) Interesting plant. More info here and here. Anyone here grow it? Any difficulties? Edited August 31, 2011 by Marcel
Alice Posted August 31, 2011 Sure do, awesome plant. In fact I just planted out some 5+ year old seed a few days ago, of both acmella and oleracea. Haven't grown it for a few years so hopefully my old seed is still viable. Even seen it for sale at bunnings in the past. They labelled it "peek-a-boo" in reference to the flowers. I wouldn't say it is numbing at all. Just very tingly. The flowers are the strongest. Be careful not to chew too many as your swallow reflex can get fucked up and feels like you are choking briefly. Nothing to worry about though, very brief. I like to chew on a stem while gardening, toothpick chewing style. Good sensations to chew some then drink soft drinks. Piss easy to grow, 100% strick rate on cuttings. Maybe doesn't like the cold too much because I think it died one winter. I lost interest and checked on where it was planted after 18 months or so and it was gone.

mud Posted September 1, 2011 (edited) So a homemade anesthetic extract is outta the answer? I've got some seed in. 3 weeks, still hoping.. Edited September 1, 2011 by mud
Alice Posted September 1, 2011 I personally don't think it has any anaesthetic properties. It's kind of hard to describe. More like sherbert than anything else, but without the sweetness.
Marcel Posted September 1, 2011 Sheesh. This plant sounds exciting! I'll order me some seeds next week. Thanks for the replies, people.
occidentalis Posted September 2, 2011 Highly astringent, and stimulates the salivary glands. Makes your mouth feel like it's getting a good clean out . Great fun, sometimes a bit overwhelming though.
