Trichocereus peruvianus monstrosus/TPM x SS02

Recommended Posts

I sent some of this seed to Oz 2 years ago after my TPM flowered and a fellow nooker's SS02 flowered - the fruit from that flower was very small and had only 300 seeds or so.. I sent them out to several people and sowed 10 for myself - only 4 sporuted for me but all 4 are mutants..

I haven't seen pics from anybody in Oz who got the seed - how have the results been? All 4 of mine are mutants and each in a different way, so I'm fascinated to think of all the exotic morphology that is going to result when these seedlings get bigger!

I'm hoping the plant flowers again this year - last year it flowered and we crossed it with an SS01 (SS01 was the motherplant - not sure how those seeds turned out) Hoping it flowers again this year!

Post ur pix!

Here are mine - pic is a couple months old - they're a little bigger and weirder now:

Good to see some people are growing, and that the seeds got spread around a bit!

There were so few seeds to start with, and the germination rate looks like it was about 30-50%.. I sowed I think it was 10 of them - only 4 survived, and that sounds about typical...

In that thread that was linked, a guy posted his pic of a non-mutant seedling - that thing was still small though, might well mutate as it grows. or just have subtle mutation..

not great shots or anything but here:

this one is a pure crest

post-1018-0-31364300-1312581988_thumb.jp

in the right of this photo you can see one that is branching and crested, in the center are two others, one of them has branches and crest, the other is crest only

post-1018-0-79844200-1312582001_thumb.jp

then in this one you can see the three normal types with the specimen with 11 ribs

post-1018-0-41249400-1312582013_thumb.jp

the crests get a lot of heat and their medium gets drier more quickly,

this results in the stress pigments that are visible, they are not sunburned nor are they receiving excess light but they are underpotted for the size of container they should be in

You must be a proud father of those little beauties watertrade.

That second one has incredibly dense spines!

God, do I hate oxalis weed. I reckon it's in every second cactus pot in Australia. Look at it, mocking your spiny little mutant... It's not even afraid!

I am very proud on them. :) I'm happy they have grown so well, once it gets a bit warmer I will start chopping and grafting them.

Marcel, the oxalis weed isn't scared because it knows how lazy I am. I did pull a few bits out for the pic but gave up. my greenhouse is full of it. :)

All my pots have creeping oxalis. It's unbeatable.

It will be interesting to see how differently they grow once grafted. I imagine they will take on an appearance more like Hellonasty's, with areoles spaced further apart.

Finally got around to taking some shots :)

Seed grown plant, looks like the left column is a crest.

Degrafted plant previously on Hylocereus.

Same plant

This one I just put in the ground, was a degraft from Pereskiopsis. More monstrose than crest but who knows what it will do.
