I made 2 other attempts on T. cuzco, one with super-glue and the other one with the fishing line and weights

Seems like the super glue one won't make it

However, the one with the weights looks promising until now

this cross it acting strangly

whatever seedlings survived keep stalling all the time and continue grow after a few weeks.

This graft did the same but now it pupping from a lower areol

P1040270.jpg

P1040253.jpg

i wonder if this keeps on happening in the future, would this make it become a clumper?

maybe, I've seen some plants with a prolific branching habit show this habit as seedlings. However I've also seen seedlings that formed 2-3 branches very early and didn't branch again until cut when they were more than a meter tall

It looks interesting, some of the monstrose specimens branch a great deal, perhaps this is a case of that.

great info, we'll see how it will turn out. The thing is none of the individuals from this cross show any monstrouse characteristic ....... at least until now, maybe they need to grow a little bit more and then they will go monstrouse.

The growth on the areol graft on pereskiopsis is very fast

the areol grafted on cuzco is still alive and green :)

Very nice pics and also nice to see that other growers are using the areole graft technique too. All my tests with superglue failed so i ditched that idea totally. Pressure seems to be the key for a good graft and your success with the one that had weights on confirms that once again. bye Eg

Thanks Eg :)

Me too, i have tried the super glue tek 5 times until now, with areols and small pups and it never worked, although i think it's something im doing wrong.

Don't think ill try it again in the near future

This is inspirational. Hopefully mine turn out like this...I graft all my trich seedlings about the same age as you and they just seem to shrivel.

Very impressive growth, i really like there grow log threads. I might have to have a whack at that areole grafting. You make it look so easy lol

Great work philo, good growth there. Looks like time for a degraft on the larger one, they will grow faster once that size on their own roots.

Nice looking plant too.

Khala - it might be a lot of reasons that make your seedlings shrivel.

You have to make a clean cut on the seedling and the stock. Set the seedling off center to ensure vascular rings overlapping. Keep the new graft in high humidity for at least 3 days. I put mine in a bucket filled about from 5-10 cm with wet perlite. Then a cover this bucket with another upside down bucket. When it's pretty dry i spray the upper (upside down bucket) with water.

Try to gradually decrease humidity to ensure that both cut surfaces (don't dry quickly, thus screwing the bond they are forming). You can do this by opening the buckets after the 3rd day and closing them again, twice or 3 times a day. Or just moving the upper bucket in a way that will leave a small space this will make new (drier) air get in the bucket in small amount and drying both cut surfaces slowly.

Hope that helps.

cactuscarl - actually it's a miss or hit thing for me, except with lophophora areols ;) But practice makes better results.

Hellonasty - i will leave it on the pereskiopsis until fall and winter pass. As pereskiopsis (and cacti grafted on it) keep on growing in these cold months. When springs comes i'll follow your advice.

they will grow faster once that size on their own roots.

I just noticed this only this season but i wasn't sure. Thanks for the conformation my friend :)

Thanks a lot guys for all the positive energy :)

2 seasons ago, I put hydrated lime to all the pots in my collection and all, but pereskiopsis grafts, stalled or extremely slowed down. I really don't know if the yellowing of all of columnars is a result of the hydrated lime or the intensity of the sun in my location. I know it's not nitrogen deficiency because I fertilize regularly.

So in this last months I've been transplanting all my cacti to a new soil mix. I decided to uproot my 2 SS01XTPM grafts and another "Ecuadorian pachanoiXPsycho0" to put them in new soil.

In the pic with the 3 in the 40 cm pot, the one with all the pups is the "Ecuadorian pachanoiXPsycho0"

Amazing work philo!

Thanks especially for showing off that Ecuadorean pach x psychonaught, I've got a handful still going from that batch of seed, but my biggest is probably six inches. Theyre really taking off now that I've separated them out and given them some space and fertilized them. I have one that looked like it was going monstrose, I hope so!

Most of my seedling are also very small but I grafted 2 (the me in the pic is one of them) and I find them a very interesting cross.

I'd like to see a pic of yours

Here they are!

nitrogens PC pach x cuzcocoensis has been the fastest growing of the bunch, these are a close second.

Looking good, I grew my seedlings in the shade so they're tall but very skinny, but now I'm introducing them to sunlight..

Cuz they're tall and skinny they're leaning from the middle but I'm counting on that they'll start straightening up soon

I have two plants of this cross from Nitrogen, both grafted, one crest and one monstrose.. Pretty sure they're from the same time and seed batch, i know its your grow log but is it ok if I post pics of them Philocacti?

Of course my friend

Feel free.....I'm very interested to see other specimen from this cross.

Nitrogen send me a good # of seeds from this cross but only 5 germinated. I still have 3 hard grown seedlings from 1-3 cm.

These 2 adults were grafts. One was grafted to pereskiopsis and the other was an areol clone from the 1st one.

PS it's about the cacti not the person, so feel free to post in any thread of "mine" ;)
