Is this a closely guarded secret or what!

Its been mentioned before but for such a popular herb it sure is hard to get seed

Does anyone have some plants here in Australia.

Someone must. Its too obvious a species to want to have.If so id love some seed, Contact me and name your price

Youd think it'd be right at home in northern parts , even too at home.

Does it have a low viability? Does seed have a limited lifespan

i had some seed once but it didnt come up

Torsten said the mexican seed crop failed last year - is that th only source?

Also has anyone had success with M scabrella outside of the tropical areas.I grew one last year but it died when the pot got cooked. i have seed and im thinking of trying it in spring.

hmmm..

m scaraberrala should be good, i think us houlden't let it cook, but i don't think it needs tropical conditions

some one once told me it was hardy in southern england

which is still ain't that tropical...

so i would give it a try, just don't let it cook and give it enough water

spike

hostilis, ie tenuiflora is not rare. however last year the seed failed for the second year in a row. this has left the worldmarket devoid of any fresh seed. I also think that in the main production regions the seed is guarded to protect their markets for bark.

I hope somebody here knows this for sure:

when MHRB is harvested, do they have to kill the whole plant to get it? Is it possible to take just some of the roots so that it could recover?

as far as I know, Mimosas are not propagated by cuttings...

Yes, it is possible to take just a few roots to harvest. This may still kill the tree, but unlikely if done carefully and only a small amount at a time. It is suitable for your own plants.

HOWEVER, the commercial production doesn't care about the trees and it is MUCH faster to kill the whole tree and harvest all the rootbark at once.

Caldeye, please e-mail me asap!! (mention your forum name)
