Just a bit of morphing like blowng mentioned. See it a lot in the garden, half formed ribs and stuff.

man that first pic is an optical ilusion!!! it goes in then out then in? first it looks like its stickin out then ya look at the pic below quickly and look back at the first it goes in?

added a rib and then dropped it right away, i had a plant that did that often, but it was a hybrid, it is rare but not unheard of.

the second plant is a lovely peruvianoid

i totally agree with PD i've grown heaps of scops from tiny seedlings & so many of them showed that kind of strange rib behavior... seems to be really common in scops..
