Are these pachanoi?

Question

I've had these little friends for a while and always assumed they were pachanoi - yet the more reading I do the more unsure I become, all this talk about hyprids and scops and short spined peruvians is tearing my brain apart :)

I don't know whether there's a simple answer to this question anymore but I thought I'd ask none the less

I guess a more direct question could be - would a shaman in Peru use these cactus?

Cheers

Yes, they're pachanoi, or close enough for us to them that. The shamans in Peru use many different species, so I expect they would readily use that too.

E.g.:

01b.jpg

Photo showing this plant (2nd from right) with 4 other cacti employed by Peruvian shamans as "San Pedro".

From this site.

Edit: what is commonly referred to as pachanoi is a hybrid of some sort anyway. As the species has been in cultivation for so long, the original geographic location and habitat that it hails from has become obscured.

bought this as a Pach X Scop

May i ask where ya got it?

I have seen some for sale on ebay listed as pach x scop "super pedro". Interested to know it the seller actually grew them from pach x scop seed and is calling it super pedro or if it is actually the clone commonly known by many here as super pedro.

I was just about to start a new thread on that very subject but thought I'd better go and see if there is an existing "Ebay" thread of some sort. Anyway the pic in this listing looks nothing like the super pedro I have in my collection. My cactus was aquired from a member on this forum so I'm fairly sure it is super pedro.

Whats the history of super pedro anyway?

Sorry for the hijack

Looks pretty scop-like to me. That's gomaos from AE, so you could ask him about it.

I got it from gom via eBay over 6 months ago and it was advertised as scop x pach unlike the ones on eBay at the moment. That's all I know about it though. Sorry :)

I really like the alleged T. scopulicola x T. pachanoi (obviously "PC" form). Seriously, someone has to cross T. scopulicola with your proper Ecuador/Peru T. pachanoi. That would be one plant I'd really want.

Dang, forgot about that "Super Pedro" thread...am I usually so wordy? Ugh!

I second the scop X anything hybridisation demand !!! especially the wiztastic supa dupa scopXbridge combo. Micromegas had shown such a plant or am I mistakeing?

I do have a very fatty scop or scopX [the dude that gave it to me ferted it a lot] whose surface is shiny. Maybe close to what Mike is looking [kk339 style phenotype X scop] , the main cactus of this clone has more than doubled it's height since put in the ground and thankfully it's tip survived the frosts that ruined the biggest portion of my columnar's tips. Or maybe it's a more scop-scop. I just realised I have no close up of this clone. Should take one of sure, it'a a huge cactus

Actually PD, on second thoughts.... Maybe the scop X Pach came from Teo (Not Teotz)

I have several scop X bridge I got from Herbalistics several seasons ago. they have been constantly hacked at for grafting stock, so all are still very short, but in the ground as of 8 or so moinths ago.

I have one of what seems like SP, now I've read this thread, but have cut the plant for survival reasons.

Initially it seemed as though it was rotting but I've sen the warping flesh turn awesome again.

I love these plants and will grow them until I can no longer.

people have probably noticed this already, but the values and contrast on this picture have really been pushed, I would guess the colors are not accurate, nor are all the super dark shadows/markings.

that said, thanks to this thread i can tell the difference between a scop, pach, and sp.

Thanks corroboree.

have a good one

Well, what do you know...looking over my plants I actually have a T. scopulicola x T. pachanoi "Juuls Giant." It's a young graft to a Pereskiopsis, but that should make it grow all the quicker. Can't wait till spring.
