Guess what? Another acacia ID request!

Recommended Posts

These were found on a 2m high tree in Sydney, a few kilometres from the coast, in among dozens and dozens and dozens of what seem to be longifolia shrubs and trees. It wasn't in flower, and there were only about 2 or 3 specimens of this type all next to each other.

I've never met an obtusifolia in the flesh, but it seems to look like what I've seen in books. Redness to the tips, leathery texture, wavy in the margins...

Pics lightened slightly for greater visibility of veins.

What do you guys think?

Really? Do longifolia get that red colouring too?

Thanks for the help, paradox!

yeah they do...

is a little hard to tell from the pics i guess but obtusifolia phyllodes generally are quite a bit more 'leathery' & a usually a darker shade of green.. amongst other things.. fresh young phyllodes on obtusi commonly have small but distinctive little blobs of resin all around the margins

Acacia longifolia sub genus, I would say its acacia longfolia Maidenii.

or like previously mentioned it could be another acacia longfolia strain obtusifolia.

picture here http://media.photobucket.com/image/acacia%20Maidenii/nyseleven/Acacia_obtusifolia_0.jpg

I would say its more likely obtusifolia. or a very close relative.
