Good Bye Jakey Bo it was a blast.

Jakey will be up for adoption as early as Tuesday so if anyone is interested please let me know :)

Dont let his disabilities fool you, he is more agile and quicker to learn than a lot of other dogs his age that Ive met. He just happily gets on with life.

He now know knows hand and touch signals for Come, Sit, Ease Up and sits when he wants anything

He plays fetch like a boss! (at the beach is the best but he loves the rainforest too)

He will even come desexed, this is the look I got when I explained that he was getting the snip yesterday though.
Poor Jakey...

I have to admit, there was a bit of a quiver from my bottom lip as I was driving away but with all the interest people showed in him whenever I had him out I am confident he will be snapped up quickly by a great family that can give him everything he needs and I can help out another dog that really needs it.

Looking forward to my next foster :)

That all white pup will be a stunner :) wanna sell her to me ;)

I don't think I'd have the time to train an amstaff well enough to not worry about it eating someone, u need to have specific height fences etc by law to house them? Or am I wrong ? Don't get me wrong they are freaking beautiful beautiful dogs, I just feel they would require a firm hand, excellent training and ALOT of time to be a trustworthy pet.

For years I wanted a blue amstaff, it's then"what if's" that have stopped me. They have the physical potential to do ALOT of damage, there wouldn't be much hope if one locked onto a little kid, I certainly wouldn't be able to live with myself,

Beautiful beautiful dogs though.

One of my all time best friends Till died two days ago. it's still hard to get my head & heart around it.. it happened so quick.

she, wouldn't eat her dinner friday night, then the next day she did, but she was still looking pretty down, the next day she didn't eat again & started wheezing & coughing, i thought she might have a bone stuck in her throat as she had been getting into some road kill the day she started seeming ill..

monday morning she wouldn't get up so we took her to the vet, thinking it wouldn't be too serious.. turns out she had a huge agressive tumor in her throat, one more day & she wouldn't have been able to breathe, they had to give her a tracheostomy so she could breathe as the anxiety of being at the vet made it worse :( it was inoperable & we really had no choice but to have her put down as she couldn't breathe & there was nothing we could do. she died laying in my lap.

i've never been hit so hard by the death of a pet, she really was one of the absolute best friends that i have ever had, she's been with me for a third of my life.. i picked her out as a pup, instantly i just knew she was the one & we always had a very special bond.. i will miss her more than i could ever express, more than i would miss many humans in my life, harsh as it may sound, it's true.

love ya Till, rest in peace my beautiful friend, will catch you on the other side a little later on

thanks for the thoughst brother, yeah you know, life goes on, though it's just like losing a family member, bit by bit get used to them not being there but when you think of them you miss them no less than ever, you just get used to coming to terms with it aswell.. still on a daily basis when i'm up the valley i will hallucinate her out of the corner of my eye all the time. every time i walk outside i'm still waiting for her to come bounding out of the door ready for a walk & your heart sinks when you remember she's not going to, or when you accidentally drop some food on the floor & you suddenly realize that you have to clean it up because you automatic hoover service isn't there to take care of it :)

a big thing is realizing just what a great job she did here around the house. two weeks after she died two possums moved into the roof, (little bastards) the antichinus have gone nuts in the house, half my trees that are hardening off outside the nursery have been decimated by roo's while before i didn't even need to fence them off.. i'm not quite ready yet but i almost feel that we NEED to get a pup to be till's predecessor & take care of all the vital jobs she did

Do you have a dog? You don't? Okay, go “borrow” your neighbor's dog or something. Now, look at that dog's tail. It's wagging, no doubt, because he's a good little boy, isn't he? But if that tail's wagging a whole lot more to the left than the right—the dog's left, not yours—then that wag isn't a signal of the pup's brain dreaming up visions of their owner dropping a sloppy joe on the ground.According to new and exciting and research, that left-based tail wag is a symbolic of terror taking place behind the dog's eyes, which makes a lot of sense now that I mention it, seeing as you dognapped him from your neighbor's house.

My little mutt having one of many afternoon naps, not sure how this is comfortable for him? maybe he just likes baring it all to the world.

I'm not worried at all with him being around little kids and other people but bloody hell does he hate other dogs, doesn't matter what kind of dog, size, etc etc he just seems to want to eat their faces/crush skulls its fucking crazy. It sucks thats he's so gnarly around other dogs cause I really just want to let him run around at the park but even if its empty I'm worried that as soon as another dog enters the park from any entrance he'll just be off like a bullet wanting to eat it.

Having a dog aggressive companion does take a bit of the fun out of it but it can be worked on, even at an older age.

Unless the problem is from deep seated fear issues carried from a young age then retraining is a good possibility and even then some very fearful dogs can be worked with, it just takes a lot longer.

(assuming it isnt due to poor breeding and the dog is otherwise healthy and sound)

IME one of the biggest problems is when walking on the footpath and people walk up and without asking let their dog interact with yours like its an unwritten rule of the land, then inevitably blame you when it goes badly. (often because they didnt do any introduction and the other dog hasnt been taught how to meet other dogs/people properly and gets pushy, shows fear or sends mixed signals)

But there are collars and harnesses you can get with notices on them like NO DOGS, NERVOUS, FRIENDLY, that way at least people have a visible que to work from.,

I own the TRAINING one and its tops.

I think its pretty common with alot of anything "bull" i had an english bull terrior that was the exact same. A buddie of mine had a pitbull the same. One day he was out walking it and it grabbed hold of one of those kids rides that you put 20c in and they move. Everyone was terrified while he battled with this monster dog had hold of a fiberglass pony round the neck. Plenty of staffies are like this too. Even if theyre perfectly good with other dogs, sometimes they just see a goat or a horse and go mental

My staffy is scared of sheep and loves other dogs :) he's the biggest sook ever but still he's only 6monyhs old and his balls haven't dropped yet. We will see how he goes when his blood surges with testosterone. He's well socialised around other dogs and animals- he genuinely seems good natured, fingers crossed he stays like that.

When it comes to bully breeds, IME raising a non dog-aggressive dog has 90% to do with early socialization + training and 10% to do with breed and or breeding. (de-sexing at a young age before their testosterone really pumps or they have mated also helps)

They have been getting bred almost soley for good health and temperament for quite a few decades now so the aggression has diminished substantially.

One of the biggest surprises I found when getting into Staffords was that they are WAY less dog aggressive than I originally thought.
Being raised with a kennel of German Sheppard Dogs and going to shows all the time as a kid I was used to a certain level of dog aggression and what was considered normal at a show.
So when I went to my first SBT/AmStaff show I was expecting to see at least a bit more D/A going on than I see at GSD shows, after all they are Staffords right, Bully Breeds, fighting dogs but I didn't since one single instance of dog aggression the whole weekend beyond a few stink eyes. when there used to be a fair bit of snapping and growling and rushing at GSD shows.

That said its not unusual for 2 bitches to not get on especially if one of them is on their own turf, surprisingly they fight for top dog more than males.
