Magicdirt Posted May 3, 2010 Before I went overseas back in 90 and started getting in audio and cabling, I had been working since around 83 to 90 on stud farms and worked as a strapper/stable groom in 2 different powerful racing stables, one in Brisbane/Gold coast and then a shift to Rosehill Sydney. It's one of the most rewarding jobs I've ever worked, but tough and hard, 3am rise's everyday 7 days a week, finish at 10-11am then start again at 3pm till 5pm for light exercise and a walk and mix feeds etc. Always in stable work the animal comes first you come second....the horse exercises, weather that be a canter, trot, light gallop or some pre race serious hard work galloping then the horse has a roll in a big sand pit, has a wash then a brush down, take them back to the stable, clean their feet and paint the hoofs, clean their box out of shit and make it nice and clean for rest time, give them some food and vitamins and sometimes acupuncture if the vet is swinging by or hold your horses whilst the farrier comes in and re shoes your horses if necessary, most stable hands take care of 4 horses each and they ARE your responsibility...once that routine is completed and the horses are back in the stall then you can knock off and have a coffee and some toast. All my racing knowledge started from those 7odd years working constantly and traveling with trainers and horses to Melbourne cups, Cox plates, Brisbane cups you name it. I've followed breeding and the Australian racing scene ever since and have accumulated a huge amount of knowledge over the years...it's like a passion I never talk to with anyone cause no one in this type of community really has any interest in such things...it's my Jeckyl side, but I love it and will continue to study and learn more and more about thoroughbreds till I'm 6feet under. 4 horses each - you must of had a good boss, my missus had to look after a full barn by herself anywhere from 10-16 boxes and if anyone was running late she was expected to help them out as well. Sundays were always different everyone got stuck in and helped each other and she normally got home an hour or so early (in the morning) but she had to go back for the other half of the shift in the arvo. Anyway you've had some good results with your tips, we did too on the weeks you've posted tips for, Kudos to you. I'll be following this thread a lot closer now I know it's here. We've been researching thoroughbreds bloodlines for a while and the same old campaigners seem to show up in the bloodlines, there's a few notable exceptions but I couple this with recent form and have had some good results. I did pick the Melbourne cup winner (shocking)on form alone, but the cup seems to break most of the rules of succesfull punting and is a bit of a guess anyway. I have written a punters computer that runs on Open Office (Excell cannot handle the rounding functions accurately) It allows you to back up to 19 horses in one race and still make a profit But in practice 3 horses backed turns a good profit. If there's any interest I might offer it for a trade.
Chiral Posted May 8, 2010 Nice work magic, good to see others interested in bloodlines and the industry, I'm sure we could talk each other stupid about racing if had a beer together.

Magicdirt Posted May 14, 2010 gotta be fast today need to get to work so here is a couple to go with... Flemington rc 7 no -15 VEEWAP no -3 NINE TALES no -5 OKAY OKY Doomben rc 1 4 DAUNTING LAD 1 FORESTRENO 7 FAB FEVOLA rc 7 8 ORTENSIA 3 GHETTO BLASTER 2 MIC MAC got a shit load more but have run out of time...damn it. I've been looking at those three in Br race 7 too. I like the Weight For Age races as the form is easier to compare, if they have tried and failed at weight for age more than once you can be pretty sure they can't cut it at that level. If they have performed well at weight for age there is a good chance they can do it again I'll second that opinion on Ortensia in race 7. I've won a few bucks on her in recent weeks. Mic Mac is serious contender as well. Larry Cassidy was mysteriously silent about Ghetto Blaster this morning, maybe he wants to keep it at good odds ? Might be a trifecta hope with those 3 picks

Chiral Posted May 22, 2010 I've selected 4 horses for each race so players can box them up for trifectas or first 4's * denotes best win &place bet *** denotes best long shot bet I'll be boxing 4 horses for trifectas and exacta's and backing the long shots each way all day.

Chiral Posted May 28, 2010 (edited) okay hope y'all are ready for a super big day today...it's Doomben 10,000 day and the fields are big and the winners plentiful...hopefully.. here are Saturdays tips..4 selections for each race * denotes best win bet *** denotes best long shot bet Box all 4 horse for exacta's and trifectas. Brisbane Rc 1 ...I found this race particularly difficult to assess even after multiple tape watches of last 2 races of each horse.. 2 PEPPERWOOD 3rd $5.10place 8 FIREBOLT * 1st $6.70win $2.30place 5 RIGHTSON 14 MIRRASALO *** Rc 2 2 TEMPLE OF BOOM * 6 SWISS ROSE 7 PRINCESS QUALO *** 1st $37.10win 7.50place 8 SARGE IN CHARGE Rc 3 2 FORESTRENO * 4th 4 PRINCE BRAEMAN 1st $3.90win $1.70place 5 FAB FEVOLA 3rd $2.00 11 JOINT CHIEFS *** 2nd $9.30 place Trifecta paid $939.00 and yes I got it...if you had of boxed these 4 horses for the first 4 cost $24, you would have won a handsome $5421.20 Rc 4 4 LEVI'S CHOICE 8 STARCHEEKA *** 13 RINGA RINGA ROSIE 3rd $2.40 16 MIRJULISA LASS * Rc 5 4 KEYORA *** 5 TEE EMAR * 9 KUTCHINSKY 1st $7.40win $2.70place 11 LANDLORD 3rd $2.40 place Rc 6 3 HISSING SID 4 CROSSTHESTART * 13 SOLID BILLING 16 CASTLE HEIGHTS *** Rc 7...the Doomben 10 000..this is the hottest race all year so far...there are 16 runners and seriously 12 of those could win it..can't pick em all so it's.. 4 MIC MAC * 10 HOT DANISH 1st $5.50win $2.80place 15 MELITO 3rd $2.50place 16 PAPRIKA *** Rc 8 4 AGE OF HEROES * 6 GUNDY SON 3rd $1.70place 8 MR UNFORGETTABLE 11 SINFUL WARRIOR *** Good luck for today..oh and one more tip for Mooney valley in Melbourne Rc 6 3 GRAN SASSO I would put Gran Saso to win, with the field to run second, and field to run third in a Flexi trifecta for $20...the percentage would be 12.82% of the dividend...that means if the trifecta paid $3000...you would get some 330 odd bucks for your $20 investment. When I say the field to run second and third that means you take every other runner in the race to run 2nd or 3rd...it's one of my favorite types of bets actually. good luck for those who are followin....
