Internet Censorship Trials

Recommended Posts

You think 90% of australians are against censorship? hahahahahaha

well there is one more thing more irritating than bad customer service at every store I walk into and that's being completely miss quoted...sigh.gif

I specifically said %90 of voters...those that don't vote aren't entitled to a say/voice according the political rule book, although they will tell you otherwise...right kids...!!!

I think you would find if there was a referendum or census poll on this issue, and all information from the trials was made available to the public with no lies or cover-ups then I stand by my %90 of voters would be against it.

I don't see how me doing some meditation in full orange people robes, smoking wild dagga babies, realigning my oracle chakra's, whilst blowing pink peace bubbles out of my arse, after necking 12 pints of shamanic jizz extract, followed by a frenzied aya purge into the mouths of virgin a-sexual tibetan monks is going to be of any help either.

Figuring the numbers is interesting.

The online polls of the last few days are are roughly 95% against 5% for. But given demographics of internet users, this would not make these polls reflect wider community views. Also have to consider the power of social networking - FB, twitter et al.

In reality, if people were made aware of the issues on a meaningful level, I would say 75% against 35% for. Have a referendum right now, asking Australians if they want the filter, I think it would be close to 50/50.

---

reptyle,

I do appreciate your views, you bring up...anthropological? points which I ordinarily would not have asked myself. I have asked myself how I would feel about all this in the future - it's easy to get caught up in the moment and hysteria - loose a greater perspective.

devance

What do I suggest instead? Keep calm.

I'm not sure about this, I have been following this for about 2 years now, keeping calm, waiting for the report. Seems like a good idea to do as much as possible while it is getting so much attention...strike while the iron is hot and all that crap. Given the nature of our media outlets, this will be forgotten in the next week or so until the senate debates it in Autumn.

Anyway, I'll send off a few more letters, then think I will let it slide for a while. I don't want to waste anymore of my holidays getting angry looking at a computer screen. `-.-

Better now than later.

That said, I'm also happy to let it slide. If enough people get really angry internet censorship might not be the only problem to get flushed.

From what i can gather most of the material to be banned would be considered "subversive" in some way by conservatives. So not a lot of "mums and dads" will want to stand up and counted having to say "i want to watch real porn", "i want to know how to bang up and not destroy my veins", "i want to know ways of killing myself when i'm too old to care anymore". People do not want other people to know what they do in the privacy of their own homes out of fear of being ostracized from their family and friends. And for this reason alot of people will pretend not to care as "they're not doing anything wrong so they have nothing to fear".

I think this is a great example of:

First they came and took the blacks, and noone complained

Then they came and took the jews, and noone complained

Then they came and took the hippies, and noone complained

Then they came and took me, and there was noone left to complain.

I don't like the secrecy around the list either. I think there would be alot less aversion to the plan if they were a little bit transparent about it. I would like to see a list and the reasons behind blocking EACH website. I can understand that they feel that if they reveal the addresses of the websites then peoplem will be able to visit the,, but this is a moot point as they will be blocked. Or is it that they themselves have so little confidence in their own filter that they believe that people determined enough will burrom through the wall?

Reptyle- I find it ironic that you would be apathetic (or even happy) about internet censorship. I know that you consider yourself to be on the holy path but the way you got on the path was (as far as i can see anyway) largely to do with the internet. And not only the internet, but the parts of the internet that will be filtered. Would you deny anyone else to walk the holy path that you walk just because you don't want them to accidently stumble upon a video of a goat fucking someone? Surely seeing something like that is a fair payoff for enlightenment? Or is it because you have already found the path that it doesn't really matter for other people? Do you think your website would get through the clean feed? I think not. And with websites like yours taken down how are we ever expected to have change?

I was actually incredinbly surprised to read your posts in this thread.

So optus is doing the trial. This explains a lot.

I have wondered for a very long time why my interent is sooo shit. It just stops sometimes and won't download anything. Sometimes it disconnects for no reason. My god it is the worst internet since dialup.

I thought it was just my internet but i went to a mates house with optus and his is the same. So them saying it doesn't affect internet speed is a blatant lie, unless optus is just shit anyway?

I've been thinking about changing providers for a long time (because of the service being so bad) but now i def will, i don't want to support a company that supports censorship.

I'm using Optus FTTN here (edge of inner city Melb) and it is awesome! As a trader reliable internet is priority for me, have no complaints so far for Optus. Previously to this I've used exetel and tpg (tpg sucks for traders, exetel rocks), and optus cable way back in the day when it was called optus@home (all in suburban Sydney).

Most likely your service degradation is more to do with distance from the exchange coupled with older infrastructure.

Also, Optus is supposed to contact you by email if you are in the trial, so if you haven't heard from them you aren't in it.

As the cycles of time pass individuals move through varying phases of "the holy path". Certain phases are holy...certain phases are hellish...i suppose that is the nature of everything...fortunately, we are moving through time, and what once was considered normal and or acceptable mutates in the same way the environment of the planet changes...it's a mental climate thing...

Obviously my personal exposure to certain types of things has influenced how i feel about what should and should not be taught to those wishing to pursue the divine world...and walk alongside God on the Most Highs passage through the vastness of life ans death.

As for my entry into the path, it began with a ganja dealer named BJ who sold me buds, showed me how to shoot a blow dart out of a PVC pipe and packed me up cones of Datura...then he told me about "this stuff that ya pack like a match head of it in ure bong and its the strongest psychedelic ya ever can smoke"...then he sold me some acid and told me about SAB...then i started reading...went to Newcastle dropped out of uni and started learning occult theory whilst becoming a doofer...my involvement in the internet culture never really influenced my actualization...it just became a way for me to share and record, and in some ways network with people i may oneday have an interest in meeting.

My life has been guided by forces far stronger than those that censorship could compete with, revelation comes from God.

I think it's interesting that the government plan to implement the filter just before the next election.

It's as if they have no idea how unpopular this filter is. They actually think the filter will help them win the election. It's just crazy

cunts...!

That's it one more year to save up some coin and I'm moving back overseas...for good this time, fuck this for a laugh, they can have their stinking 2 dimensional country and cook all the prawns on the barbie they want...never really been happy here anyways, fucking pussy politicians, cotton wool laws and soccer mum mentality.

:wave-finger:

The '2D' comment is spot on. This is why I live in china:

- I get paid more than I ever did in Australia

- I pay 20% tax

- people are friendly and helpful

- the internet wall can be bypassed easily

- I can order ethno's to my door from many parts of the world that would be illegal in Australia

- I can buy alcohol 24hrs a day

- there's low crime and minimal violent crime

- china has some stunning women

- food is cheap and not subsidized to the extent of the US and Australia

- unlike the US and Australian lawyer and accountant driven politicians many of china's politicians are engineers or planners and now how to get things done or listen to advice

- Chinese don't play rugby or have a footy show

- dvd's and xbox games cost 50c

- etc etc

yeah china has it's share of problems and I miss the sound of kookaburra's but everytime I read the Australian news about censorship and crime and footy and house prices and debt I don't want to return! It's a weird thing to say but I've never felt as free as I have in PRC and never felt more controlled and ripped off as I have in Australia

Wow, botanika, your words really invoke thought. This country has become so controlled in so many ways it's disturbing. Every facet of life is governed and dictated by people I don't respect and laws I don't agree with. I love this land so damned much, but if it keeps progressing like this, I don't want to live here. I don't want the weight of laws and penalties weighing upon me when I see them as completely unjust and wrong. To think that soon just being on a forum like this could be treated as a criminal offense is almost unthinkable. China is one of the last places I would have thought as being freer than Australia, but it goes to show just how fucked up it has become here.

I've never felt as free as I have in PRC and never felt more controlled and ripped off as I have in Australia

When we were in Vietnam I asked a 50 year old American who was spending a year traveling around what he thought about how he had been brought up to believe that Vietnam was an evil communist country compared to what he was experiencing.

His answer was that he had much more freedom in Vietnam than he had in the US.

Some of you have been reading my mind.

Early this year I did a TESL course on a bit of a whim (bored and lonely at nights with nothing to do). Increasingly, I think to myself it is time to cash it in. Taiwan, South Korea or even Thailand sound appealing. Money is not really that great compared to what I am doing now, but the lifestyle and experience would make up for that I believe.

I increasingly feel like an outsider in my own country; fundamental values, mindset, seem increasingly at odds with the people I converse with on a day to day basis. It's strange...in my perception, baby boomers in positions of power seem to be the ones most vocal about taking us backwards. People who grew up in the 60's, who broke away from the conservative shackles of Menzies era politics now seem to be the ones taking us right back to this period of social conservatism...baby boomers finding Jesus, nothing makes me cringe worse. I wonder what a Freudian would say about all this.

I can not see things improving, and I'm not just talking about the filter obviously - South Korea and Thailand also have filtered internet - I think I am talking about myself, I can't quite put my finger on it completely, I just know that I am no longer comfortable in this country...it's something insidious I can't quite make out...whether I would be comfortable in another country is also a valid question; 'grass is always greener' comes to mind.

EDIT: And let's not forget the bogans. Two of my friends have been the victims of nasty bashing's in the last couple of months and a few before that...for no reason, just a group of bogans find someone alone on the street and feel like it. I rarely bother going out of a weekend now, too much fear on the streets at night.

One word...Mexico...cheap everything, little regulation, sexy ass women, nice weather, a stones throw away from all the ethno hot spots and cactus growing regions, a stones throw away from mainland USA, UFO's, Mexican food, Tequila, affordable land/housing, and a wonderful vibrant culture that just loves to party...some say it's third world, well to me that's better than any shallow, capitalistic, beer swilling footy head, angry, neo christian, SUV driving, Oprah watching, filter installing, closet pedophile, soccer mum & Dad communties.

Oh and did I mention that the women are sexy as, and the drugs cheap and plentiful... :innocent_n:

lol @ Dale...Tasmania is still too close to the mainland, the stench of Neo Christianity, fascist censorship and democratic betrayal, would still waft over Bass straight, as a constant reminder of the a place with no soul, being led into the arms of fear mongers.

I'd rather smell tortillas, tequila and THC and know that one is far enough away,.. fully immersed in a place that in some parts, is still lawless, a touch dangerous even...seriously I feel I have better control over my destiny, with so much less stress and paranoia. I can feel my way better in places of basic, simple lifestyles...there isn't the red tape, 100's of rules, obeying laws that are implemented or changed every other week..you get so sick of signs telling me what to do everywhere...

no parking, no standing, no left turn, no right turn, 60ks, 50ks, 70ks, 40ks between 2.30pm and 4pm, meter parking 4.80 per half hr, bus lane, give way, stop, toll way, bike lane, no walking on the grass, no skateboarding, alcohol free zone, no diving, no fishing, no swimming, no jumping from bridge, no food allowed, no drinks allowed, form a cue here, no loitering , no littering, no fires, wrong way, go back, no u-turns, e-way, cash only, no dogs, bikes only, no smoking, no running, no diving, no bombing, no trespassing, authorized personnel only, no jeans, no thongs, no t-shirts, members only, keep off, fines apply, no crossing, rear to kerb only, no cell phones, no texting, reserved parking, 2 hr parking, park here only between 2-4pm, handicap parking only, you must this tall to ride this ride, do not feed the birds, bill posters will be prosecuted, no graffiti, no camping, no horses, and for the benefit of the loyal Australian public...the wonderful people who voted us into office..we present to you for your safety...'We welcome the Australian internet content censorship filter"...oh fuck it just NO.

If you have an idea, are creative, genuine and willing to put your idea's into action..make a modest income, has very low impact on the environment...but find you have pay, license, tax, rents, fee's, charges, registrations, bills bills bills...then why bother...this place sucks for cottage industries..there is just way too much bureaucracy in this country, too many rules, laws, conditions, taxes and shit to even bother. Even in the UK one could walk up to the Camden markets office, ask if any stalls, sheds or train tunnels were available to rent..they tell you whats available, you take your pick and give em a weeks rent..the rest is up to you. fill up your space with whatever it is you sell, pay your rent at the end of every week and that's it...no fees, charges, taxes, conditions, license or anything..just open up and sell your wares, with massive amounts of international tourists flocking to the markets every week, one could turn over huge amounts of cash..and no tax. On a good weekend I could sell art, music, t-shirts, jewelery, magazines, lighting and lots of other head accessories to the value of around 4000 pound, my best week totaling 15000 pounds..an american chap who collected art came in and asked to take every single piece or our artwork..twas a good week for sure. Where can you access that kind of freedom to trade anywhere here, there is no way you could get access to place with such heavy international tourist traffic here..and if you did actually find somewhere, I bet my balls it would cost a lot more than a 100 pound a week, well it just isnt possible here only places like McDonald's or Starbucks can afford places to lease that have good passing traffic exposure.

Anyways, somewhere like Mexico or Thailand..places that have great international tourist attractions, deep rooted cultural pride with tons of freedom to put your ideas and dreams into action are the way to go, as long as you are aware of the locals, their methods and practices, work with them, don't go barging in and setting up then open a cafe that sucks any money they might have been earning away from them...no you work with them, always putting their feelings and pride before your need to be a western super hero who cashes in. Even when local ceremonial affairs seem a little primitive or silly or whatever, it's imperative to acknowledge, understand and find out if you as an outsider are insulting or humiliating them by your actions, as you may not be aware of subtleties such as dress or posture codes during certain events be they religious or spiritual. Put yourself in their position, envisage a life of simplicity, without much care for time, no bustling or stress, strange smells, foods you may have never seen or eaten, toilets if any that would make most shriek, children running around with no shoes or parents screaming at them to behave...imagine that bliss being disturbed by outsiders, you have to understand that it may take a long time to become accepted into their world before you can even begin to set-up your cottage industry. These are concerns I would personally rather face than any of the shit we deal with here in the great white land.

People in this community and many other fringe dwellers can still find paths to walk in oz, it's not all doom and gloom like I paint it, fringe dwellers are a very resilient lot and are very adept at change or adapting to the mans efforts to put out their fires, we are like that mouse in your house, that is always one step ahead of you, you almost catch it many times, but it's just to wiley and quick. It's the 2D framework that irritates me here, it is feeling they are trying to take another dimension away from people, leaving us to flounder in a 1 dimensional world, a place where they finally have control of all aspects of our lives, the trap is made and we are finally all caught in it, the wall is built, the cameras are on, the eyes are watching, the ears are listening, the eaders are reading our data...I feel the foul stench of oppression closing in and feel a sense of urgency to get out before yet another regulation or law prevents me from, a passport that doesn't allow me to get out, because of a breach, a credit history or some other minor infraction, a visa that tells the man at the gate that I am not allowed to go where I want...Don't let yourself be squeezed into submission and oppression by the ever changing laws of the land, tis better to find a place that has not been tainted with cotton wool polices and paranoia, a place that will allow you live out the rest of your life in relative peace, we only need another 40 -50 yrs to complete our walk, find somewhere that is locked in the past, pray that the cotton wool police and neo christian conservatives, don't move their webs to where you are, educate the locals when you arrive of this evil, paint a picture of them that evokes strength and resilience, evoke a passion in them to stand as one and block them when they come. Depending on how fast this virus moves you might need to take extreme measures to block them.

it's a Brave new world alright..a brave new order is on the march, it's not coming into town from the outside, but spreading it's tentacles from within the corridors of power, from within our schools, our police, it is living inside the media and has spread silently through all forms of communication, an agenda was formed, formed without anyone hearing or seeing, a secretive select few who were chosen to carry out the task, they are moving fast, they are now moving internationally, turning off various important channels of communication, silencing the masses while they sleep. we have always been brainwashed that the devil is satan and must be kept in hell, perhaps that's the perfect script of twisted logic that allows the Christians to carry out their work, what better way to have the majority on your side than have your masses believe that the opposition is a filthy stinking horned beast that will to take you to hell for eternity to endure infinite tortuous pain if you side with him or any of his incarnations like child porn supporters or pedophiles.

Their use of an argument that evokes instant anger so much so that people cannot ever argue against it, a reason so brilliantly deceptive as to blind your followers, an argument that can outrage people so much as to form instantaneous killing mobs...the children...protect your young.. an emotional tie, a love so strong, an emotion so scary to contemplate, that if broken by another would turn a normally passive person into a white rage killing machine. An argument that uses this emotion against it's people, that forms a clear path in the direction this evil is traveling, with no objection..an argument so perfect that no one is even bothering to find any objection, how could there even be one..? No it's brilliant, it is the ultimate sting, the ultimate tool of persuasion, it's very impressive, very very clever and although I'm repulsed and sickened by these impostors.

I must concede that they did indeed find an argument is so brilliant it could only have ever come from the mind of pure evil..the real evil is dressed in disguise as our savior, evil has pulled the ultimate deception, evil has used us against ourselves, evil is somewhere where no one would ever suspect it to be, it hides right there in front of you, a wolf in sheep's clothing, evil is hiding so brilliantly that no one will ever believe you if you told them...but there is one flaw in evils plans, it can blind, trick and deceive most of the people most of the time, but there are others who have fallen through the cracks, the few who chose not to, the nature of chaos, the infinite amounts of tiny anomalies in everything that can never be explained, or categorised, anomalies which continually change to avoid being tracked, categorized or captured. I feel it's very late in this show, it's time for final scene to unfold, evil has the advantage and it's the bottom of the ninth, it has been working on it's goal for a long time, it has incredible patience, it is seething at the teeth, it's going into labor soon, the screams will follow and there may be no place to hide.

Be prepared, shake off the intoxicant, sober up, smarten up, move only in the shadows, do not try to tell others as they might be working with or supporting the evil, if you must mingle with and play with the rest, keep your head down, and stay out of any trouble or attention. Make sure you can travel and do not allow yourself to enter into anything that might prevent you from traveling, liquidate everything that you don't need, stockpile your cash, make sure you can access it anywhere in the world, travel light, travel safe and peacefully, remain humble and silent, do not draw any attention to your self or respond or react to any aggression or negative tact by strangers. Find somewhere quiet and unaffected by the filth, take the locals in your arms and give yourself to them, leave your ego and negativity at the border, meditate when you can, pacify your anger and above all be prepared.

"Australia..building better, stronger and softer walls to protect YOU, we''ll look after you.. :)

The great thing about humans is that we are, in terms of the evolution of a conscious being through the mind, at a junction between matter and spirit...we bridge the gap between the two worlds...

It is the nature of the beast to find pleasure in destruction and to find satisfaction of a specific type of appetite in the emotions of aggression...beast witness entropy

It is the nature of the spirit to find joy in creation and propagation of life, and to be filled with the grace that is joined to praising the entire of everything, to witness the divine in the world.

Humans get to choose which path they take, blending into the spirit or indulging in the fancies of the beast.

It is the origin and end of the lighting bolt, the vajra, it is symbolised by the dorje...created and destructive non polar unified true nature.

Returning to the lowest natural point to put an end to the witnessing of the sufferings of the beast...or living in the depth fo appreciation for the gifts the changing world has to offer...

We all have our natural resting state, where we feel we belong, it is a blessing to recognize who we are and what our roles are, how far our tendrils of interconnectedness can extend...where we get our light...

It has become apparent to me throughout journeying in this world, that wherever i expect to find what i'm looking for, i am blinded by a message screaming at me to first appreciate my home...to simply be present, and appreciate it...we only see ourselves...fundamentally you either feel oppressed or sympathy for the oppressed...whether it be environment, money, freedom, intellegence, education and any number of "inequalities" that exist in this world...

It is strange to describe these things, whether they are relative or able to be integrated...

the essence is suffering...and why we need to suffer...

to chase freedom from suffering, in this world, cannot end in non-suffering, being a central concept of the chasing...

to chase enlightenment and freedom, in a similar way, is free from suffering, as the core of experiences are of a learning and changing nature.

to try and surround oneself with ease and freedom by elevating oneself above the standard, will not produce liberation. To elevate oneself towards the higher standard will not end in being lower than one was in their origin.

To embrace the gifts of the natural world, and to appreciate the manifest beauty is central to enjoying life.

What seems a curse often ends as a barrier holding the road to your destination in place...
