First finds south confirmed as of the 9/5/2013. On track for my very rough 'second week of May' rule of thumb... But very thin on the ground on that day, only 5 specimens located.

Edit - Subs, that is - not gyms. :)

Great pics and it's (still going) a good year for G.purps finds.

What I'm interested in at the moment is G.allantopus.

Ha Ha. you heard right. Recent phylogenetic research shows that this species may well be active being closely related to the Validipes clade. If this species is active then several additional closely related Australian species will also be active so if we can confirm activity it'll be a major step in Aust mycology.

Results may be posted here or PM me. :bong:

I am so sorry that I sound like a troll. You are right as I'm very poor at telling them apart when they are small.

No excuses though, when I'm not sure I shouldn't say anything.

Their shape and texture changes base on the amount of water they are exposed to

as far as i know junonius is not active

however with the amount of inconsistencies in wat little testing has been done on the gymnopolis species

i guess you could say it is possible some may be active

There are report finding junonius specimens active in some parts of america but inactive from some others. Probably more study is needed. Look up Stamet too

They grow everywhere in WA and I found 3 different specimens of it here in Perth.

They don't have blue or purple stains so I haven't tested them to see if they are active.

I might try.

Please do not eat the yellow/orange Gym A's. They are unlikely to kill you, but they would make you pretty sick if you had enough.

On shroomery there was a confirmed find earlier this week of G. purps from somewhere in Perth. Went for a look myself at one location with finds reported from previous years but found almost no fungi at all, but there was lots of signs of people having been through before me. Meant to be a bit of rain again this weekend I think so might head out for a look after that.
