Loose gem stones

Recommended Posts

Anybody know of a good online store to buy loose natural and synthetic gem stones from?

I have been buying from jamminggems.com and while their size tolerances have been pretty good (±0.1mm usually IME) their color consistency isnt always the best, like getting different shades of yellow in the same packet :slap: , and they dont always have everything I need so basically looking for a second low price reasonable quality source for mostly synthetics.

lol, loose just means not attached to anything yet so I can put them in things like air cleaner nuts for hot rods or knives or snuff tubes, etc :)

I havent got around to trying rainbow quartz or mystic topaz (the stones shown above) yet but I been pondering working them into a pipe or the handle of a long non-serrated knife for using to clone cacti. I actually couldnt afford most of whats above since they are natural and not synthetic lol.. figured to start with 5 or 6 mm mystic topaz

and 8 mm rainbow quartz

incorporated into stainless steel with shades of pinks and blues worked in somehow. Also been pondering a mystic topaz into a titanium lined oak and stainless steel snuff tube.

I dunno, still in the early stages of designing those projects lol.

I get mine from shows etc, but they're heaps more expensive in oz than overseas. I have noticed www.multicolour.com - there site is huge, never tried them though.

It's really hard to tell what's genuine these days. Ebay.com (not .au) seems to have truckloads of the stuff, I got some in from thailand a few months back, all pretty good, perfect cuts too. A mate of mine got a mystic topaz, museum size, blah blah - looked like a piece of burnt glass, so...

Thanks :)

Good to hear you had good dealings with one of the thai ebay dealers, I've been tempted by them several times.

Anything so inherently variable as mystic topaz I'd be careful buying from new dealers, I always test drive folks before putting much money down

Auxin I have a handful here that I scammed from a gem scammer in Nepal  Im happy to send them over and you can ascertain their value and offer me something in accordance. They will just sit here and look pretty otherwise.

I appreciate the offer, but I really have no way of fairly ascertaining their value.

I quite often look at the little peyote medalion you made, brings me much joy. Your quite a craftsman.

Our little town has this thing called minerama, spose to be pretty big for Aus, always something nice to look at there.

I got alot of nice synthetic gems from ebay.

Garnet, star sapphires, and a big ruby all less than ten bucks each with poststage.

The star sapphires are made by dusting the outside of the sapphire with titanium dioxide and on cooling that creates a star effect so beware of that if you want a real one.

But natural rubys and sapphires are cheap when not transparent as theres too many titanium threads to reflect light from the facets as clearly needed.

I think I know why Auxin wants pounds of such.

He got his time machine working and wants to go back to ancient Roman times.

The first bribery would be for minor officials [Garnet, star sapphires]and after working up the court gifts ladder give the good stuff [rubys] too the emperor.

Just kidding, but one would need such if time traveling.

Commoners were forbidden swords.

One could only hire personal body guards license by the state.

Just in case of time travel, auxin will need traveling clothes of the period.

Bump...

Sorry I can't help you with synthetics, Auxin, but have you thought about putting small REAL gems/crystals into things? For example your cloning knife you could set a small moss agate or other green crystal.

This is a helpful US website:

I bought a couple of phenacite crystals the other day and I haven't stopped thrumming subtly since. Hell I've even had more energy, desire to clean, and better health (at least temporarily).
