gerbil Posted July 14, 2015 I would like to get lots out to people but it's been a slow process of propagation due to various limitations. Come spring/summer I can make a better assessment as to where I am at with propagation. I am trying to establish a good propagation base for them and not rid myself of too much biomass so I don't take a step back as simple decisions can have consequences radiating out into yearly+ timeframes. The end goal is to get things established and breeding, so eventually I hope to get these seed cuts out to as many folk as possible.
M S Smith Posted July 19, 2015 (edited) Just the smaller, but nicer, part of my collection. The other part in the back are a bit overgrown like those in the first photo. I spent some time cleaning these all out using a pair of scissors to make sure I cut the roots off all the crabgrass and then score the soil really good. Of course I got a few spines in my hands. ~Michael~ Edited July 19, 2015 by M S Smith

Strontium Dawg Posted July 22, 2015 Michael, if you don't mind me asking, why do you keep them in such small pots? Is it so they are manageable when you have to move them in and out for winter?
M S Smith Posted July 22, 2015 Yup, management. I have a few in bigger pots, or at least as large as I'd prefer, but terra cotta pots can get to be a bit heavy for moving twice a year (April, out, October, in). I've explained my reasoning for terra cotta elsewhere, but basically it allows quicker drying in my environment and wicks out moisture pretty quick once I bring them indoors for the winter, helping prevent rot. ~Michael~
Strontium Dawg Posted July 24, 2015 I use terracotta for small pots when I can, the price of terracotta and plastic is pretty much the same for the 15cm diameter size at a local supplier.

gerbil Posted April 21, 2019 (edited) Katydid found in a clump of A. acuminata saplings, has an ovipositor that mimics acacia phyllodes, particularly new growth on obtusifolia (which was a meter away), and it's folded wings with lenticel like pattern of acacia stems, pretty impressive. I've so much material piling up, have just done a big trim of things before the wind smashes them. Been procrastinating a sale for many years.
