I may be able to make the cemetery,  I know I have some busy weeks in Oct,  but I haven't kept a good diary!

Would be good to do an old fashioned sit down camp out sometime soon

Assuming the capacity to walk is a prerequisite I'm guessing the cemetery walk would be family friendly? I'm keen either way as is my wife. Unsure about the kids though?

also I'm happy to have a minor shindig at my place (10 min walk from Central) afterwards if nothing better comes up. Have a fire keg (and turntables for those inclined...) kids wouldn't be home for that one ,-)

If there are things happening ~Sept 24th I'm in. I can even walk now (mostly), which makes everything easier! But I'm away over the long weekend so if it's then, I'll catch you all at the next shindig instead :)

24th September works for me too.  Can we lock it (or another date) in?

I pondered bringing the wife and kids too AbleKay.  It might be awkward though and in some way limit/obstruct my sociability so I'll likely opt out unless there's a general consensus to do so.

Deciding on a date is always a messy affair.

Someone always gets left out.

Ive been thru the thread and although 24sept suits a few,

It cuts Toast out .As Toast started the idea and started the ball rolling with his availability of the long weekend,

it seems only right he be included in his meet. So maybe sat 1 Oct.

Thats my 2 bobs worth.

As far as kids go, we tend to be openminded on most things,

but nobody has ever chosen to bring their kids in the past.

Its usually just members and occasionally their partner,

as we are discussing all things plants and many associated things,

and there is often smoking and drinking.

Id suggest new members meeting a bunch of new people, would rather focus on that rather than entertaining the kids as well,

and perhaps making people censor their conversation and behavior as CrayZ has suggested.

Then again, the Cemetery is a great place for kids, and if a partner is willing to supervise, there are places to take them to explore,

whilst the adults talk plants and stuff ad nauseum.

While im on a roll let me do a sample agenda, times flexible.

That way people who are late, can find us.

There is a great cafe in the Cemetery, good Italian coffee.

Meet there between 10:00 an 10:30

its on Memorial ave,at the Barker st entrance.

Move to the exhibition, which is off Hawthorne ave

11:30 relocate to the old Gothic tombs along Cohen ave for a picnic lunch.

1:00 relocate to the Crematorium sunken gardens and Rose Maze.

here is a map on the cafe website.

Ok, we're at the "voting for a date" stage, yay, my preference is sat oct. 1. Other dates are semi-doable but would involve lots of rearranging. i'm sure i'll have that weekend free.

Well there's no reason we can't do both dates, right? If others are keen maybe we can have a smaller gathering for all us misfits on the 24th? I'd be interested to check out Rookwood during the day & then kick on afterwards if people are feeling energetic? Or whatever - because it's not really about the event, is it? You could drop a bunch of us into a quilting circle and we'd still be talking plants & mushrooms & the like, it's more about meeting folks.

1st October works for me. I have my son every second weekend, including last w/e in September & 2nd w/e in October etc

Thanks Horus but there's no reason picking a date should revolve around me. If majority want a w/e unavailable, so be it.
