2 x EGA 2009 tix to win: haiku poetry competition

Recommended Posts

i won the pair of tickets to EGA 2009 (www.entheo.net) from the EGA 2008 raffle. one ticket will go to a friend but i'll be giving away the other ticket to the best haiku poem, which can be about anything. ronny has also kindly donated a second ticket to EGA 2009. this will go to the best haiku poem with an ethnobotany/entheogen theme. so all up, there's 2 tickets up for grabs.

if you're unfamiliar with haiku, it's a type of japanese poem with a very simple structure:

5 syllables

7 syllables

5 syllables

for example, here's a nerdy neuroscience one i wrote about wanting my dopamine neurons blazing in the absence of psychosis (hey, my mum reckons i'm cool!)

how i long to be

hyperdopaminergic

sans insanity

all poems must be original and the winning entries will be judged by myself. you can submit as many as you like, and i'll keep the competition running until noon, sunday 12 july 2009. not such a bad way to score yourself a ticket to the conference! and if you don't win i recommend still forking out the cash to come, i thoroughly enjoyed EGA 2008 and this year's outdoor setting looks divine!

I will take the liberty of composing two :)

Horizons expand

Psychotic visions demand

Pass the pipe please man?

:P

A Mescaline cap

No known sensation can match

This Peyote Rap!

If it's all about sucking up to twix...

that ticket is mine

twix you are a champion

me love you long time

and another one

If you see the snake

you must kiss it on the tongue

do not hesitate

oooh all Jim Morrison-y

evil reptile scum

sucking the air from my lungs

taking all my funds

need to get a job

everyone thinks i'm a slob

stop playing with knob

stuck in haiku trance

ready to shred the dancefloor

i can't really dance

five syllables here

seven of them in this one

and five once again

there once was a lady from china,

with a popsicle in her... oh wait that's a limerick.

parden me, i forgot to mention: flatter me all you like, but i only accept cash bribes B)

and rhyming doesn't matter. in fact, the better ones probably won't rhyme cos it constrains your expression

so, where are all the troubled poets at???

troubled poetry?

I want to believe

over and over again

incredulity

hmm how bout..

matter space and time

contradict hypotheses

when I see the world

align with Nature

She is the source of all things

symbioticaly

to live together

cultivation of these plants

is much more complex

Staring at the sky

Clouds pass stiffly like gal stones

I need to pee now

Haiku is quite fun

Though I am blank on this one

Rhymes make it sound dumb!

My wife... a fail chef

The bitch whore mole is black death

Add more sauce next time

For a small piece of paper

Please give it to me

Here's another

What an ugly rat

To large for the cat to eat

What is for dinner?

Now i've done my time

But it's hard to make things rhyme

Now for the next line

Easier now than

What it was before this try

And i'm not sure why.

^^^

Nice one momomoto.

See the wind blowing,

Next door neighbor is mowing,

Time to get going

See the green arise,

Next step is to fertilize,

Rewards me with fruit.

cheers

some great poems... some with the wrong number of syllables... some horrendous ones too! :P

but keep up the poems for the sake of ronny's kind offer of a second EGA ticket.

how about one ticket goes to the best poem about anything, and the other ticket goes to the best poem with an ethnobotany/psychedelic theme?

I know you're talking about me when you say that

This poem is great

Lets all appreciate it

For how bad it is

My five senses join

And show me a new vision

Of life after death

Men search for bright lights

Not an illumination

Nor a state of mind

The kitty goes meow

"Fluff my tail and Ill scratch you!"

purrr "pat me now" purrr
