article-2385930-1B2F746F000005DC-887_634

The 'skin and bones' of a male polar bear, pictured, said to have starved to death have been discovered washed up in Svalbard in the Arctic Ocean. Experts claim low sea ice levels caused by climate change meant the bear couldn't hunt seals and caused the bear to unsuccessfully search further afield for food

article-2385930-1B2F7460000005DC-364_634

The bear carcass, pictured, was found on an Arctic cruise by Polar Bear scientist, Dr Ian Stirling. The winter of 2012 was one of the worst on record for sea ice levels and this caused the bear to travel more than 150 miles from home to find food

article-2385930-1B2F7467000005DC-399_634

Douglas Richardson from the Highland Wildlife Park believes ice loss due to climate change is 'absolutely, categorically and without question the cause of falling polar bear populations. While Jeff Flocken from the International Fund for Animal Welfare also blames commercial trade of polar bear parts in Canada
