Is anyone jealous?

Recommended Posts

A TBM from Fraser's nursery in Perth... They had a specimen collection that had been neglected over the last few years, and they are closing down... They had a tender for the catci before they actually shut, so i went in and put a bid on... Got an 8" astro ornatum, similar golden barrel as well... :)

Probably paid too much for the plant, but hey, they don't come around this size very often... so i got it :)

BTW what would people pay for this? (So i dont feel too bad about what i paid for it :))

Wow, i'm putting my hand up, i'm jealous as!!

Thats the second best tbm i'v seen in my life,!! ( i saw my first best today in an id thread)

I would assume at my local cactus specialist nursery (its a reatil nursery in s.e melb) i would expect too pay at least $300 for it, if i saw anything less than $250 i would get the credit card out in to time, if i was on more of a wage i would pay more than $300!!

nice pic - thanks for posting

Freeman... yeah, i should've waited, but then the opportunity prob wouldn't've come up, and i'd've been stuck with nothing...

Shruman... 140 was the end price, so i'm still happy with it. :)

Incognito... Had checked all the roots when i got it out of the ground at the nursery, looks ok to me... I've watered it with a dilute mancozeb though, will do the same for the next 4 weeks, should kill anything nasty. Washed off all the soil from there, and put it in a cacti mix with some coarse riversand mixed 75:25, so should be pretty schmick now... we'll see...

I've got a few pups now, so if people are chasing, PM away... grin. The majority of the plant stays as is now though... :)

Nice score! I will have to post some pics of the 2 TBM's that I have they both look totally different.

This TBM has small pups got this as a cutting off a friend a while ago. she is shooting out 5 pups.

This one has huge pups, seed grown, bought it off a friend.

Yep, they look the same to me, just different stages of growth and or conditions.

Also, its unlikely thet the tbm was grown from seed but rather is just a clone.

If it was grown from seed then thats very cool and particularly unusual!

There's no denying you got a sweet find. That price is pretty fair considering the size of the old gal :)
