The chemical engineer leading the research, Tim Krueger, says mixing lime extract and seawater could double the volume of carbon the ocean absorbs. Mr Krueger say the researchers are carefully considering the likely effects of adding lime to the ocean. "If you wanted to do this successfully, you'd need to do it in a very controlled and measured way," he said. "So it involves adding the lime in a very dilute form across a wide area of the ocean.
