PD.
Would have to be early December as the cod season doesnt start till 1st December. <___base_url___>/uploads/emoticons/default_tongue.pngPlenty of time to work all things out though. I dont see how ppl wouldnt want to go if DJ sinasexypants is gonna be there. and its FREEEEEEE. Yep all camping sites around here are free and only 5 to 10 minutes from town. How many days Jono, 2 or 3? more?

PD.
12th to the 14th of December sound good?will have to wait till around then to pick the site as there could be ppl camping at any site i pick, either way there is plenty of places to choose from. I do have one good lil spot in mind that doesnt usually have ppl camping there, there hasnt been one camp there this summer so with some luck we get that one. It is my favourite fishing spot and has been producing some nice fish this season. An 81cm, 20 pound Cod has been my best catch so far :D

benjahman
Cooling wise I've got a couple of 250 litre ice-boxes that could help us go the distance easy and some colorful solar powered fairy lights for those "wtf is the campsite?" moments.Probably have a spare dome tent or two as well provided we can fit them in the utility. reshroomED
I'll be in, health-permitting, and if I haven't moved Nth by then (but, shit, I've been saying that for near two years now ).Absolutely love that part of Victoria. Worth mentioning that it's dynamite trout and yellowbelly water too. With the odd reddy thrown in, and more carp than necessary but there's ways to avoid them. Even caught a pair of greyling once.Got tons of gear (dead-quiet little honda genset, 60l 12v fridge/freezer in back of landcruiser, lights, barbecues, smokers, little car-topper & outboard etc, etc.) and can probably help out with a loan of tents, chairs, fishing gear etc. too. What's the plan Passive, camping on lake or river?ed

reshroomED
Nah, not close to Mansfield jono, most of my experience on Eildon has been in the Big River and Goulburn arms (South-eastern end). Never targeted cod there (why i don't know, just always hit the trout in that area and the Murray-Darling for cod) and have only camped on the lake four or five times. From memory the Delatite arm, Ford inlet, etc seem to be better for the cod and yellas. Passive will be far more clued in on the situation than I am, I'm sure. My go is usually hunting sambar at the same time and prefer very isolated camps (which is bloody hard these days, every bastard and their dog has a 4wd). This means camping on the head-waters of one of eildon's feeder-streams/rivers and ultra-light tackle for trout.Eildon in summer dragging a lure or drowning some bait, with a few cold beers, sounds quite therapeutic. I'd probably do a day-trip for a fish up one of the rivers anyway, and probably stay at least a week if I'm gonna bother driving there. No use in doing things half-assed .I'm actually planning a trip in the next few months out the back of Wood's Point in search of a few old mines and ghost-towns lost to the Black-Friday fires of '39, and a buddy of mine is keen to see some real high-country cattlemen's huts, so will probably end up around Mansfield. With the recent fires in the area the undergrowth is pretty-well non-existent, so things that have been buried under blackberry etc will be visible and accessable (I'm particularly interested in a chinese ceremonial pig-oven that I have the gps co-ordinates for). As an aside, I'd strongly recommend listening to the first-hand reports of these fires at ABC - Black Friday. Some very haunting tales. One ripper by an old bloke describing how (in his youth) he got word of the fires, whacked some sanga's down his shirt, grabbed his rake-head (his sole fire-fighting equipment - he'd cut a sapling for a rake handle when he got there), jumped on his horse and went to fight the fire. The spirit showed by these people is sadly lacking in modern Oz.But yeah, fish, sun, good company. All sounds too good to miss.ed Edited January 20, 2008 by reshroomED
