trucha Posted September 4, 2007 (edited) That sounds perfectly logical but in this case its not totally right. The RS numbers are actually cultivar selection numbers assigned to clone lines based on their perceived desirability as was assessed using several factors. Reliable application, water tolerance, fast growth, degree of slime are among those. They all arose from elsewhere within horticulture so are synonymous with other offering out there but were selected based on individuals from within those larger offerings. There are 6 RS numbers I am aware of although the first three might now be collapsed into one. RS0001, 2 and 3 are peruvianus RS0004 is a macrogonus sensu Carlyle. I'm not clear if this was one clone or several that were indistinguishable. RS0005 is a bridgesii RSfat4 is a longer spined macrogonus sensu Carlyle RS is the initials of the selector 000X just illustrates the optimism or hopeful desire that many would someday exist. I suspect this is as far as they are ever going. Edited September 4, 2007 by trucha
