MELBOURNE FINDS !!!!

Recommended Posts

my experience agrees with jabez. I find the ones out in the bush tend to blue less and be less potent. And yes, they are more tedious to find. I found a patch in the burbs two days ago that was about two square metres and yielded over a kilo in the one patch.

here's what I'm talking about

post-968-1182238294_thumb.jpg

cost me about 15 minutes of my lunch break

This is the best picture I could get of the patch. Its a really thick mulch bed so there were fully devoloped ones growing right though the mulch, thats why they look so warped.

And some purple gyms

Just a few pics from today. It seems like Ive been finding new patches everywhere I go without even looking. So anyone who has had trouble finding any get out there, because now is the time.

Sorry about the size of the pics. I cant work out how to post them as thumbnails.

Happy hunting.

I know mate, P. subs are amazing how much variation they can have in their size and shape. These were all found within ten metres of each other in three different little patches. I must admit though Ive never found them with such thick stems before.

Absolutely, I've been seeing them in almost every mulch bed I pass.

I went picking with a friend a week or so ago, found these guys. We've not been picking before, only studied photos from other people. What do you think?

Its getting a bit quite now all the good patches have had 3 or 4 good flushes and are now fruiting far less and all the new patches I find are either decaying or are in bad condition, which dont usually make good photos.

So heres the last I'm posting unless I see something amazing :shroomer:

Yeah, also at this time of year there are different bugs around. Many of my patches have the gills totally covered with these little mite like things almost as soon as the veil breaks away. A few weeks ago mostly it was only the ones that had well and truly matured that had any parasites, and even then it would only be a maggot or two where the cap meets the stem, or in the stem itself.

But I still think it's worth posting pics of what's out there (Hence my second last post of pics), because only part of the reason for this thread is for showing off finds and for pornographic purposes. It is also a document of this year's sub season in Melbourne, and it's good to get an overview I believe, not just the 'gloss and glamour' of the exciting part of the season, hehe.

It seems to have just totally gone dead in the burbs since the last week or so and I'm not just talking about subs, every where I go theres either nothing or just a rotting mess of fungi.

In shaded bushland/forest is the only place I've seen them lately.
